How are you?

Well I am still here, my server is still here, the kiddos are off on holidays and life is very good…

Wanna see my new, ooh I mean old ;-) quilt and a little change around in my bedroom?

Come on in.

You see the problem with not having a blog to blog on is you get a lot more time for foofing…

and my bedroom had gotten undtidy and I had been skimming the cleaning…you know?

so I foofed and changed the bedding and took the opportunity to put the quilt on

the quilt is the sister to this quilt below I bought last year and nearly had a coronary when I saw it at Anthropologie….(you can see that & the more of the bedroom here)

This one was in a local boutique to me and I had my eye on it for like ever…I know exactly when…we came back from Noosa on holiday, so that was in January and I saw with surprise that this little shop had started dabbling in homewares and blow me down if the cushion I had been lusting after to go with that Anthropologie quilt was right there in their front window…

I went in and oohed and ahhhed…

something in the back of my mind though told me to hold my horses…plus I really could not justify over 300 dollars for another quilt to add to the ahem already large and growing quilt collection that afflicts this cottage….AND I had my eye on the waterfall ruffle quilt (now a proud owner and yet to show you) to match the ruffle curtain hanging at the window…

…so I waited and waited and waited…

and those quilts and cushions didn’t seem to be going anywhere and so I waited some more

and then recently I just popped in on the offchance to see if my friend, the sister to the quilt I had on my bed was reduced…I picked up the pillow that I loved (find that here) and blow me down, not only was it on sale, it was half price.   I danced…

and I ran to the bank to get some cash…

and here it is…

So with sun streaming in this week, I pulled everything out, hoovered up those dust bunnies baby…got that Dettol rocking and flung the things that I had been stuffing under the bed to ‘tidy up’

Much much better

I know that there are a lot of you visiting this blog that are new, hence the server fiasco, so I thought I might show you what this room looked like when we bought it…

nice huh?

designer cottage on the beaches ;-)

20110701-08-House-Bed-1-2 20110701-09-bedroom-birds-eye

My camelias are also out and absolutely blooming everywhere…I don’t quite know how there could be so many more flowers and buds this year…but last year after they had bloomed I spent some time pulling all the dead stuff out…it felt like they were sighing in gratitude at the time…I am fairly certain that no-one in this cottage who lived here before paid them any attention whatsoever and so I think this might be my pay-back for camelia-lovin’

There are so many blooms and the branches are so heavy that there are lots on the grass and every morning I have been going out to pick a few off the tree and collect those from the floor and then just plop them around all over the place….love doing that…nothing like bringing some of the outdoors in in the winter…

I put these by Mr BC’s bed…when he came home from work and went in here to freshen up in the en-suite he came out saying there’s something really stinky in our bedroom…

it appears that the blossoming fragrance of hyacinth is not quite as sweet to my darling husband as it is to me

…shame, I have bulbs sprouting everywhere outside…

the old ladder was part of a longer wooden one…I found it on my treasure hunting and painted it white

and this glass jar I found the other week…I was on my way home from my walk and coffee and stopped at a new thrift store that’s opened up…I had heard a few negative things about it…that it was super-duper over-priced and it had obnoxious things written on the price tags.

Yep.  What I had heard was 150 per cent correct…this so called ‘charity’ shop, where people donate things for ahem charity was ridiculous….

I am so over that…and it seems so are a lot of other people like me who used to love nothing more than spending time hunting out vintage things…it kinda takes away the thrill when someone has put a label on it that would be more suited to some upmarket antique shop and labelled it ‘vintage oldie’

I liked this jar though and it was surprisingly not an arm and a leg…quite interesting it’s actually stamped Pyrex on the bottom…I thought it would be lovely as a vase, but I wonder what it’s purpose originally was?  Some kinda bottling I assume…?

…the door came in from the Sitting Room…(I am having a change around in there too…and I am trying to persuade Mr BC to do some painting..it needs a freshen up)…I got the door from a garage sale, it was $5 and not even for sale, it was stacked up at the side of the garage…

I have been looking for a similar one ever since…but no luck as of yet…I love how it is not too bulky…easy to just stand around looking pretty anywhere you fancy…and I love how it’s naturally creamy and aged and shabby…not easy to buy that when you want to…

So that’s it from me…if I lose my server again I am moving around the Family Room…still haven’t gotten around to that makeover since my new boyfriend the patio door moved in…

Happy Weekend kiddos, we are going out for dinner this weekend and tonight is Movie Night in my amazingly interesting life…

p.s. you can see the Summer Version when the bed moves to under the window for the breeze coming in off the coast here

Love the room but who is that cute scruffy little visitor? I sincerely hope for your sake he is not destructive. I’m done dog sitting for my brother… That damn great dane pup would you believe it got on top of our table after having a good dig at our wheelbarrow that was filled with cement waiting a little bit of moiture to turn it to mud!!! My table is now covered in cement powder and great dane paw prints!!! Pheww Glad I got that out of my hair…

Loooveee your roommmmm!!! Such a lucky gal, my bedroom doesn’t allow much room to move it around :(. But it is very welcoming at the end of the day :). Sometimes I catch my self just staring at it from the hall way in a dreamy state… I imagine you must too, I know I would lol!!!

I’m glad your back and running, I didn’t realise how much I miss checking in!

  13. Jadyn says:

I love that moment of getting out the quilt and putting it on the bed! Instant coziness…. You’ve done such a great job with that room!! Nice to see the before pic, it really shows how much hard work you’ve put into it.

  14. HRH Sarah says:

    Love that quilt! So jealous…

  15. The all white bedroom looks so warm, cozy and charming.

  16. Hi Sarah..I am a newbie here and was amazed at your before pic compared to what the room looks like now..well done!

  17. Laura says:

Sarah, you are tantalizing and teasing us with that photo of the black dog in your white rooms. I know I can’t be the only one imaging the pain of all that non-matching dog hair on your lovely white quilts… though he or she is a cutie all right.

  18. Alia says:

It is so relaxing and lovely to just look at the photos. I can’t imagine what it would be like to get to sleep there! I just want to jump in and read a book all day and never leave. And the flowers are a beautiful touch with their little bits of color. Sigh….color me jealous.

  19. Heather says:

I’ve been CRAVING a bedroom re-do (or just plain ole’ cleaning!)

Thanks for the kick in the rear!! :)

  20. teres says:

loving that polka-dot pillowcase! i want!!!!! where did you get it from??? i love that dove grey – that’s MY color!

also, i have a big pyrex ‘jar’ like the one you have there on the nightstand and i was told that ones like that were used to make root beer in! so, there’s a little ‘maybe so’ story for ya’. :o)

  21. Tammi says:

Ah Heaven!! I love that you too move your furniture from room to room, makes me feel less alien :)

Is that your little black dog I spy? Glad to know that I am not the only black dog owner in a mostly white home.

Some time ago, I did need to buy a building for my business but I didn’t have enough money and could not purchase anything. Thank goodness my colleague proposed to get the home loans from reliable creditors. Thus, I did so and was happy with my short term loan.

  23. Kat says:

    Sarah, it’s gorgeous!!
    So peaceful, serene and calm.
I wish my bedroom looked as good as this!!
You have such a beautiful sense of style that I think you have missed your calling as a stylist!
What are you watching for movie night tonight?

  24. Cas says:

Love ya ruffles, jealous of your overflowing camelia bush, and sooo know what you mean about those ‘thrift’ stores that seem to have missed the point….oh and I’m guessing that the little black puppy in the corner is the really really really really really really really lovely someone you talked about in your last post ;)

  25. Lee Mills says:

Very jealous of your amazing room…why oh why don’t the expensive items I fall in love with ever go on sale??? You go girl!

  26. Robynne says:

The bedroom looks lovely Sarah…very calm and restful. I love the little bedside cabinet…I think that was an old sewing cabinet??? My hubby always wrinkles his nose up when I have hyacinths in the house too and makes some sort of similar remark….”something stinks”… I usually just retort…”it must be you”..Robx

  27. DJ says:

Absolutely gorgeous bedroom Sarah with all its lovely layers of whiteness… your before and after pics are always so inspiring. But I must admit it’s the furry little creature in the corner of the last pic that has me. He/she is very cute! You are going to have a ball these school hols with him running around!

  28. suzanne says:

Sarah you truely have a flair that is timeless. Where did you find that quilt and spotty bedlinen, and I did notice a little black family addition who looks like they love your fluffing and shushing as well.

    • sarah says:

suzanne..hoping polka dot linen will be in my shop soon x

      • Sam says:

Ohh. I hope that beautiful linen will be available soon. Searching the internet/stores for ages now and finding nothing! x

  29. hey hey- a sleep in starring at lovely cushions in here- can’t think of anything better on a sunday morning…

i went back and had an extra drool over that gorgeous round cushion you had on your bed in another post- seriously divine…

aren’t husbands good to know better than to persue a conversation about girls & quilts & pretty cushions & running to the bank!!

    love them when they know it’s best to just stop talking & enjoy the quiet in a gorgeous spot that we have created…{yes months of window watching and sale hoping and jugging in public and all! ;)…..}

    great to have you back!

    melissa x

  30. Robyn says:

Must be like sleeping on a cloud, although I’d love to know what Mr BC’s thoughts are about the ruffles he has to sleep under.

  31. Susan says:

doggy????? cute quilt but we need to meet the doggy……. :):)

  32. LeAnn says:

Sarah, this is the most tranquil bedroom ever!! I love it and I’m so happy you got your quilt you wanted, isn’t it great when we get it on sale?

  33. It’s a good thing that all the stores are closed today for Canada Day or I might be running for a total redo after those photos :)

  34. Teresa says:

Sarah, I have a question for you. I have a door that was my grandmother’s and looks almost exactly like the one in your bedroom. My bedroom is not white and I don’t have to use the door there but I am really wanting to use it somewhere in the house. Any suggestions as to where you would use it if not in your bedroom. My room is large but already has a lot of furnitur in it and that furniture is not white, the door is. thanks.

    • sarah says:

      G’day Teresa

Well I have had all manner of doors all over this cottage…there is the one with the chalkboard paint turned into a notice board in the breakfast room, this one and a couple of others…

I would just prop it around and change it up all the time until you find somewhere it settles and you like…

  35. Shar Y says:

Hi, love what you have done with the room. Looks great and that door just leaning on the wall behind the bed, gorgeous! But, what about the dog? You teased us with that one…tell us more!

  36. Candy says:

I spy a darling little black dog!!!!!!! Looks like a non-shedder to me, unlike my sweet and cherished litttle black dog in my all white house…lol Can’t wait to hear the story. The bedroom is gorgeous and the flowers…perfection. I covet the pyrex container!

  37. Love the room!!!! You had already given me the nerve to use some white in my room and polka dots. Thank you! Still working on trying to get it all together. I have so much stuff and had even more but have sold and given away ALOT! Working on getting rid of more. So wish I lived near you we’d have a swap party. Well it’s the 4th of July weekend here in the states, picnic at a cousin’s on Sunday. Hope you have a great weekend!!!

  38. I know you must hear this so many times each day…I love your blog. I have added you to my blogroll so that more people can enjoy your lovely cottage.

  39. Sorry about the above comment. I’m Back Road Journal. Your pretty cottage popped into my mind while typing.

  40. Lois Gibbs says:

    Hi Sarah,

Love the room! I also love Pinterest, thanks to you. I was thinking of you and found three ruffled cakes so far and pinned them to my “Food” board.

I have sooo many blogs in my favorites, but yours is one of only two I make sure I never miss.

    - LOIS

  41. I’m so jealous of your house. If only I could decorate like you.

  42. I don’t think there is anything in your house I don’t like. And I love your market basket. And you bum even. But of course, I mean that in the nicest, least come on kind of way ;) x

  43. bianca says:

Ohhhh, You really do have someone really lovely to introduce, cant wait!. Your room is just completely dream inducing.

  44. Jan says:

Your new quilt looks perfect for your room!

  45. Barefoot Liz says:

I’m so in love with that quilt! Even at half price, it’s way out of my budget. I’ll just sit here and drool over yours.

  46. Anonymous says:

    Hi Sarah,

A friend of mine and I are in love with your white wrought iron bed. Did you find in a store or were just lucky finding it on one of your charity shop hunts?

    thanks much!

    • sarah says:

      Hi Annette

I bought it in a bed shop when we first moved here – they no longer do it…however IKEA have a very similar one at the moment

      hope that helps

      • Annette says:

        Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your reply and the IKEA tip. Found the bed! Good stuff to work with there.
