A New (hot) Day, A New Lesson
Wed 8th, Feb, 2017
Aloha to all far and wide. How are you all?
Well. I am good. I am a few pounds heavier good but I guess that’s what happens when you do two things. I mean it really is not rocket science. One is eat more and two is move less. So yeah the pounds, since my last visit here, have popped their little selves onto the stomach of the woman writing. You know what though it’s almost like the unloading of the dishwasher isn’t it, the utter b o r i n g n e s s of the muffin top and its reduction. It grows. I walk more. It reduces. I eat more. It grows. Blah blah blah. Rinse. Repeat.
Anyway, dear lord, it’s been MEGA hot here. I mean I can put up with going to the country and the 42C, you know, when you are on holiday. But. At home, no, just no. Sadly the weather fairy really couldn’t give a flying fart about what a woman on the coast of Sydney who likes to wear jeans, sandals and tee shirt thinks. Nope that weather fairy gets her little sparkly stick and pushes the mercury up and up and up until jeans are just a passing though to anyone in the vicinity. And one has no choice but to show their tuck shops to the world.
So yeah, what I am trying to say is it’s been hot here and I am fatter. I think the two do actually go together. When it’s boiling hot I have to go in the car more and the long walks are fewer.
In the house there has been a lot going on. I finally got my act together and found a tradie to strip, sand and paint the floors. Be gone orangey glow from my life (shudder too at an orange dress). I don’t need to tell you what colour. Though the actual plan is to add more colour (no you are not drunk, yes you are at abeachcottage) by way of furniture once the white is all around, if you see what I mean. We’ve got a new sofa for the sitting room which is a natural linen rather than white and once it’s all finished I’ll decide what other bits of colour to pop in.
In addition to the painting of floors which has meant I have been stuck in a bedroom with a little white pooch (with ensuite) for a week straight I have also been in sole charge of project managing the renovation of the laundry room. It’s working out well (I did put a video of it on instagram stories if you’re interested). Basically there are very plain white units and surprisingly I went for gloss white doors. I’ve decided with the laundry room to move away from a total vintage frenchy beachy look – to be quite honest, I think I’m overall moving away from that. A little bit done to death? Who knows, who really cares, but I do know that in this much older house and with the bones that brings it’s nice for a bit of a cleaner feel in some areas, if you see what I mean.
So, I went for plain glossy doors (push to open so no handles at all), a cluster of vintage black pendant lights over the sink, a bowl sink in the worktop rather that the butler sink I was first going to go for, a marble worktop in whites greys, white subway tiles which I am going to have laid in a different way to the regular way. I’ve still to buy a blind for the tiny window and all the bits and bobs and accessories.
Overall I hope (think) it will be fresh, provide lots of (much needed) storage and be easy to clean. Currently it’s also known as The Dungeon (as it’s downstairs and was dark), but I am hoping that when it is nice, I may partake in sitting in said Dungeon. Alone. With a beer. Without doing any laundry.
Rightio ladies, I am off.
