beach cottage vintage Long Reef
Mon 18th, Jan, 2016
Good afternoon from Sydney Beach Cottage ladies, hope you all had a good weekend.
I have been painting nearly all weekend, not just me, a few others were involved, and we now have to show for it a (very) white back hallway…looks SO much better…pics to come…
I’ve also been slowly adding a few things to the shop ready for when we open up again…this is (some of) the new Long Reef Collection – a curation of lovely vintage things all sourced locally and wearing lots of very lovely Sydney time and weathering.
We found this old chair right up the top of the beaches in the bush, it’s old and weathered and still wearing old paint and it has the pattern integrated on the seat…I guess it could be painted again but I just love them like this where the paint is peeling off and naturally distressed here and there…a whole lot better than chalk paint imho. I love painting things white (clearly) but I have to say it’s everywhere now, when I first started doing it nearly 10 years ago I loved transforming things, now not so much, I still love a very much backdrop of white but love a few original unique things and some texture rather than 80′s pine furniture slapped with chalk paint and sanded to distress.
The old unit is very unique, old and shabby – I love to tell the story of where things were found, this one was in a suburb on the other side of Sydney. More details over on the shop website here.
As you can see the peeling and rustic paint is swoon worthy, to be honest once this had been cleaned up and was ready to go at the warehouse I wanted to bring it back…though I say that about everything.
Rightio, I have to go, I have to go and do the supermarket shopping, I am fitting it in after a sit on the beach with my book.
See you soon.
