beach house hunting
Tue 7th, Oct, 2014
So, hello, we’ve had a lovely holiday weekend here in Sydney and we’ve been out and about looking for a weekender / holiday home – we packed ourselves up and off and went in search of some of NSW’s best beaches….as you can see we weren’t disappointed.
I know I have spoken a bit about this on here before and a couple of years ago we were looking, in fact we have been looking for quite a while and since then…I guess though there was never the ‘push’ in when push comes to shove and we never really found anything that meant signing on the dotted line.
So for the last 6 months or so I have been looking locally to us for a holiday unit to buy and renovate – you know what though, nothing really grabbed me by the balls and I couldn’t put my finger on why. Now I kinda know why though – because I wanted to find something that we could transform, a bit similar to what we did here, something old, run-down, unloved and needing new life.
Although we’ve seen a few places like that, there has been nothing we’ve walked into and gone yup, this is it, the bones are here, the location is good, and we can afford it and it just feels right.
Ummm that happened at the weekend, it was the last house we looked at after looking at 12 beach houses – by that stage I had had enough and was pretty much losing the plot, I was not in the mood for looking at another house, especially an old house that needed errr help…I needed a cup of English Breakfast like nobody’s business that is for sure.
But it was in for a penny in for a pound and so we met the estate agent and went in, deep breath it was far from pretty, actually pretty dire…alright it was revolting…but Mr BC and I both went quiet after the initial door opening and stepping inside and hopped off in different directions…and looked at each other in the garden…and nodded yep this could work…
So wow, exciting…
Some scary pics on the way too…when we viewed this old cottage, the estate agent, when I got out of the car and before we headed in told me ‘brace yourself’, which is always an interesting opening line in the real estate trade…this house we found over the weekend is in the ‘brace yourself’ category.
Oh and these are the beaches around the area…man does Australia do beaches well or does Australia do beaches well? :)
