Armoire Progress
Mon 8th, Oct, 2012
G’day Beach Cottage people, hope you all had a sweet weekend?
Well it’s been a busy one here – some exciting things going on in Beach Cottage Land, can’t wait to tell you all more!
Anyhoo I thought I would show you the armoire progress…it’s been slow and I will tell you for why…the masking up was not for the faint of heart – 24 little panes of glass doubled up to include the insides too made for 48 panes of glass to fiddle with and mask…as you all know I am not a girl who is patient, I am rather a little more slapdash at the best….and so I kept procrastinating with that…as one does..
It took ages and I knew it would, but once it was on I was raring to get the primer on
…I am waiting to see what happens here with this primer, so far no staining seeping through, I will definitely do more than one coat of primer though…
… it’s getting there and as soon as the first brush of the primer was on I could see that this beauty is going to be exactly as I envisaged only about a million times sweeter and for about $5000 less than the ones I have had my eyes on lately.
And for that Mr Beach Cottage you had better be eternally grateful.
Just call me thrifty right?
Whaddya think, looking hot is it not?
See you soon
S
I can’t wait to see the finished product on this beaut! It is going to be absolutely gorgeous I know with your touch Sarah! 6 days until I hit the beaches of the Outer Banks! I had to add that in….
oh good gosh, enjoy already!
It’s going to look wonderful :) What white are you going to paint it Sarah?
thank you Kim, I am not sure yet, I was thinking a more creamy antique white but now it’s white with the primer I am thinking with a touch of grey to make it quite cool and then spice it up with pops of colour like something hanging off it and what is stored inside :-)
Hi Sarah, Here’s something I thought you might find of interested … http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/2801883/list?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u123&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery22 … Houzz are also on facebook :)
It’s looking good, Sarah!
I wouldn’t have had the patience to put masking tape on 48 panes of glass – I’d prefer to just use a razor blade to take off the excess paint later :)
yeah I know Susan but I am so slapdash I thought that without masking tape I would get it everywhere and really regret it…I will probs need to do the razor blade trick too x
Wow its such a transformation already …..Im going to love it when finished!
I have just spied the mirror next to it …have we seen that before??? Its gorgeous!!!!
.
thanks that was one of my first ever old pieces, I bought it for 5 pounds (don’t have a pound sign on my computer) back in England from a junk shop…the guy thought I was mad to want it…I loved it and shipping it there probably cost many times what I bought it for lol…it was one of the first things I painted white…x
Even just with primer it looks fantastic! Can’t wait to see the finished product!
I know, I was happily surprised about how just with the primer it went from dark and drab to me all over :-))
You are very patient with the taping. I’ve just painted my front door that is a 15 paned door so I know what you are going through. Your armoire is going to look lovely. Especially once you’ve got your pretty things inside it.
Cheers Fiona
BTW the painted shelf mirror thing on the floor is divine. love it
thanks!

hellooo how are you, I think I saw you in a recent IKEA thing I was reading somewhere on my travels, would that be right? x
My home was in IKEA Live yes but that was about 2 years ago.. maybe you have seen my blogs for IKEA Family ;) Or they must have added those old pics to the Australian family magazine.. Although the one I was in was the last worldwide (23 countries) family live magazine …
Hi Sarah,
Did it have a a dark stain on it or varnish and what sort of primer do you use? I have an old rimu dresser with a very dark stain on it. Have tried sanding but doesn’t really shift it. I want to paint it white of course. Any tips? I love your cottage. I have an over 100 year old cottage in Raglan NZ am about to embark on major renovations as it is quite delapidated. Thanks.
try Zinsser primer – it is excellent for staining, I use it all the time, hope that helps x
Ive been visiting your blog for inspirational ideas for a while now! I love it and what you are doing here is amazing! its given me the courage to st art my own! Ive just moved into a new house this past two weeks and on Tuesday morning I picked up a old worn wooden dinning room table which Ive started to sand back and going to give it a white wash! Hopefully it turn out how i have imagined it!
I also just started my personal blog but haven’t had to much time yet to say much my life’s to buys watching everyone else’s than writing my own! but i defiantly display my table once its finished! (btw jobjoggas is my work one! )
Ill keep watch!
good luck with the new house! and well done on the blog…it’s fun! x
