20120418-01-beach-cottage-dog-barley-blog-puppy-

G’day Beach Cottage ladies.

Of all the things in the world, of all the things that have happened with me over the last few years, of all the things I have experienced and learnt because of this blog, I never did think I would be blogging about a cavoodle puppy.

Never say never don’t they say.

I have been taking some time off here on the beaches and as I type this I am sitting in the study, the window is open & we are experiencing some pretty severe weather here…last night it was raining cats & dogs as they say…very appropriate, especially when one is puppy training Winking smile

… and in that doing not much I have been going through rather a lot of photos – I need to take the computer in for a good old fix up, she is running pretty slow & tired, a bit like her owner lol and I have been getting rid of some photos

….anyway I found a few more of Barley in there, just a few mind…

20120418-02-beach-cottage-barley-dog

Yes I know this is supposedly a home-decor-y blog, but you know what, as ever on this blog journey, I like to wing-it and do whatever I fancy, this blog moves and grooves in different ways that suit me, recipes, white paint, fashion, vintage things, puppies, gardens…that’s the whole reason I started it I suppose…and I am guessing there’ll be a lot more Barley cavoodle puppy posts here in Beach Cottage land, I hope you won’t mind that?

But I make no apology for that, if you are a Beach Cottage Lovely and, like I used to be, and still am with anyone else’s animals wondering what quite is going on here, you will, my friend, just have to hit that little red cross in the corner because Barely is now very much part of the Beach Cottage blog story, he is the latest member to the Beach Cottage Crew and yet another cog in the wheel of picking up our life and moving it to the other side of the world.

and with him, mostly in focus I will leave you, back soon with some blue walls, ahem

Sarah

  3. Surely Sarah says:

Of course we don’t mind reading about the ADORBS cavoodle :) You can’t blog about white decor ALL the time, that would be. Variety is the spice of life.

  4. Janelle says:

Seriously, I’ve just tickled my computer screen!! Just behind Barleys ears. Is his tail wagging???!!? xx

  5. Karlee says:

What a cutie! Enjoy him! Nothing like the excitement of having a puppy join the family x

  6. Lynne says:

LOVE your Barley . . . more, more more for me!

  7. Stacey (harrimar) says:

Hi Sarah, I remember you once saying that we would never see any photos of cute furry things and I now smile at these, yep… you’re “hooked, line and sinker”!! We love it!! And isn’t your blog called a beach cottage? And doesn’t Barley now live in that said cottage? I’m just glad we see more that just his paws!! Lol……
    Stacey xo

  8. Ann Rachel says:

  9. Mummaducka says:

Yep, how’s that toilet training going? I imagine you’ve found a couple of sneaky hidden ones! They’re like babies, toddlers really, you get cranky with them when they do naughty things, but then you realise that you are the one responsible for teaching them how to do the right thing. And of course our hearts can expand to fill whatever love is around!

    • sarah says:

it’s hit and miss, more hit than miss but having a few accidents, not too bad as we moved out all the rugs so just wooden floor….looking good though!

yes I am trying to be tough and teach him to be good…it’s tricky when he looks like that xx

  10. Lark says:

He sure knows how to work the camera! What a cutie.

  11. Kris says:

Oh Sarah, Barley is just the sweetest little man, I love seeing all the photo’s of him. I was never really a doggy person until my heart was stolen by our little pup, that was 6 years ago! We have travelled half of australia on our motor home and our little Pipin was with us the whole time, he is the best company and loves travelling, so much so that his bed is an old suit case lol..
Just want to say, I love the diversity of your blog and I thank your for sharing x

    • sarah says:

oh thanks so much Kris, too kind!

I love the idea of your travelling, I have my heart set on that in the future…x

  12. Selby says:

    Such a heart stealer!:)

  13. Susan @ Afford Your Passions says:

I’d never had a dog until we got Indy, our german shepherd almost three years ago. I never would have imagined that I would be such a dog person! I love her to death! We even got a second dog so that Indy would have some companionship when we are not at home during the day :)

As far as dog posts go – I think that a blog has to constantly evolve – I wonder to myself what all those mommy bloggers are going to blog about when their kids go off to school, so you can’t put yourself in a corner with having your blog defined by just one thing, you know?

    • sarah says:

yes I think the same about blogs…how they evolve is what makes them different to to other media…I couldn’t be around here if it didn’t, thanks!

      xx

  14. Alice says:

Ummm Do I mind you sharing pictures of your insanely cute puppy…. Let me see… NOPE! He is so adorable and you have some gold pictures there Sarah!

Ummm I have a whole album dedicated to my dog and one to my cat…. When I took the pictures to get developed the lady at the counter actually looked at me and said that I was CRAZY. She actually said it to my face God love the sweet soul, all because I took so many pictures of my then puppy … Well I suppose I did take and print like 500+ pictures (I hadn’t developed any in the 6 month period) so I really couldn’t help but agree when she hauled the huge piles of photos in a bag onto the counter lol… Those were the days when I actually had spare cash to spend… Now …. Lets just say the kitchen renovations have been shelved and possibly will be left there to collect dust for another 10 years :’(… My dog will possibly need an eye operation because she has no tear production what so ever in one eye and the other eye is almost as bad… My poor girl I can only imagine how unomfortable she must be feeling… Cherish your little one, time goes by so quickly with the little darlings…

    • Alice says:

did I read that right? BLUE WALLS!!!! Did I ever mention that I actually cried and sobbed when I painted my blue walls in the house white… I miss them but I am happy with the change… I can’t wait to see them Sarah!

    • sarah says:

oh dear sorry to hear about the eyes !

yes that sounds a bit excessive on the pictures but worth it…x

  15. Kirsty says:

Aw, Barley you are a little honey!! I really love the puppy posts Sarah, I squeeze my two pups on the blog when ever I can LOL it’s hard not to when they are so photogenic! Your new ‘baby’ Barley is lovely, enjoy and take lots of photos he’ll be grown before you know it! xo K

  16. Michelle says:

I can’t wait to see your blue walls and how they came out……I hope you found a blue you like :)

  17. Chantal says:

There will never be too many puppy pictures on your blog Sarah!!

  18. Kim says:

Beautiful puppy! Congratulations to the new family! He’s adorable!

  19. oh gosh yes, throw in some pictures of Barley! What I like about the photos is you can see his personality starting to come through…his eyes are so expressive.
He’s going to be a cheeky little so and so!

As for the blog….well, you’ve always described it as life on the beaches….I think diversity in a blog is great.Mine’s about life…and what happens…it may be a gardening post, a travel post, a music post..Whatever I’m doing at the time and it suits me.

Mind you, as a journalist, i’m so nosy, I like looking at lots of blogs whether they’re specialist or diverse. But keep those pictures of Barley coming….!

  20. Leonie -Australia says:

  28. claire says:

Hi Sarah, I’m a long time lurker and recent subscriber. You’re puppy is just gorgeous!!! Alas after recently having our 3rd baby my husband is reluctant to add a puppy to our brood so I’ll have to be content with looking at the pics of your lovely Barley. Although not in this post, I adore your wellies, could you tell me what brand they are? I’m hoping to score some for Mothers day!
Love reading your blog from my own beach cottage,
    Claire

I think we’ll be able to manage the odd photo of Barley in between your normal posts. He is far too cute to be denied.

  33. Kelly Waldron says:

As someone stuck in a townhouse with body corp laws not allowing pets, pleeeease keep up the photos of the cutie pie puppy.

  34. sreebindu says:

    how adorable =)
    xoxo

  35. Shar Y says:

Love anything and everything you will have to post about Barley. Being a dog person, first and foremost, I will be constantly looking for posts about Barley. Cutest little thing, how lucky you Beach Cottagers are to have found the one perfect puppy. Puppies and beachy things just go together.

Thanks so much for sharing him and your BC world with us!

P.S. Training tip: When my puppies would actually do their thing, I would always praise them big time saying “good potty” or “good potty potty”. I make them feel like they did so good outside they will look forward to the next time!!

  36. Sorry, but those eyes? That little face? Umm… if you were not completely captivated by this little creature you would be ill. And in your world, you chronicle what captivates you in picture and word. We all love a good share. So… share.

    No apologies necessary.

  37. Laurie says:

Sweet Sarah, thank you for the bright spots of love in our days! Babies and animals have a beautiful way of reminding us to hold everything and be present :)

  38. Sharon says:

I, for one, don’t mind pictures of Barley one bit. In fact, I love them. He is a cutie and his little face makes me smile.

  39. Candy says:

Well, I’m a beach person, a cottage person, an ‘all things white’ person with a bit o’ aqua thrown in, a simple ‘jeans and white shirt’ person, maybe not so much a ‘food’ person, altho I love your easy recipes, but, most of all, I’m a dog person….especially one that is as adorable as Barley. Would be terribly disappointed not to watch him grow up in photos!!! Sooo, you’ll hear NO complaints from me!

  40. As long as you keep blogging about home decor giving me all this inspiration you can blog about Barley as much as you want. I think he is adorable.

  41. Vicki K says:

I will be totally groovin’ on any and all Puppy Posts!!

  42. I don’t know, I think he looks exactly like you’d expect a beach cottage puppy to look, so he does fit with your theme in my humble opinion. :)

  43. Lassiegirl says:

Such a precious little pup and as far as I’m concerned, your blog just got even better adding puppy to it so bring on the Barley posts. I’m right there with you on the puppy training, but I knew what I was getting into so I warned the family that we would be “puppy focused” for some time to come…oh, darn, ha! Wish Barley and Piper (4 1/2 mths) could have a play date!

  44. Jos says:

So smitten with little Barley – he is the cutest pup ever – what a honey. I know what you mean – when we got our dog B and I were hesitant but did it for Monty. 3 years later we have all been sooky as ever as we just left him with a friend while up in Byron the past week. OMG – we missed that pooch. The reunion yesterday was hysterical – I don’t know who was more excited! They capture your heart and can do v little wrong!!!! Enjoy every moment!!!! (And our dog-free friend has become one of those people who txt pics, fbooks and sends msgs to her sister about our dog – see what I mean about smitten – what can I say! They get you!!!!

  45. Maureen says:

    Hi Sarah!
I like Barley coming into the picture, I love dogs (ours sadly died last June) so seeing this little one makes me happy!
And your photo’s are coming in sharp on my screen, really nice!
All the best with training little Barley,
    Maureen xx

  46. Liz says:

Life is so much better with dogs in it! A bit messier, but so much happier! We painted our new home in all different shades of pale blue and I am loving it! Really pale, like most people think it’s a shade of white pale, lol. Baby steps :)

  47. I must agree with Liz 100%, Sarah! Life IS so much better with dogs in it – as you’ve already discovered. :) I can’t believe how stinkin’ cute Barley is. It looks like he’s always watching you with those big chocolate drop eyes, isn’t he….thinking, “I wonder if she’s watching……” lol!

    xoxo laurie

  48. Janine says:

  49. Marnie says:

oh my, he is sooo cute! I sooooo want a dog. I was wondering when you would get one after you looked after a friends a while ago..? I think dogs are a great addition to a family and a decor/cooking/fashion etc blog. Marnie x

“Cavoodle” – is that a cross between King Charles Cavalier and Poodle? Whatever he is, he sure is adorable. Looks like he is a real chewer.
