Well, hello Beach Cottage friends, I now know who a few of you are…very interesting and thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate that!  I tried to reply to everyone but I got in a muddle because I tried to do it a few different ways on different things like my iPad, phone etc and then I was in a complete mess…so if I haven’t said hello back, I will get to it over the weekend…I am not trying to ignore anyone!!

So, I hope you are strapped in for  big ole’ Saturday Club ride yeah?

This one is totally self-centred, and all about me…I’m good like that.

You see, I had something going on that kept me up late last night, I wish I could tell you that Richard Gere dropped by (when he was 25 yrs younger) opened up the door to his chariot and whisked me off to dance ballroom, alas it was nothing like that and involved teenagers, stinky male ones at that that meant I wasn’t crawling in under the covers until the early hours of the morning.

And then tonight I have something else involving me getting in the bed too late…this girl doesn’t handle that too well two nights in a row.

So when this tatty old cottage owner does not have enough sleep we all know that that stick that lives in the cupboard starts to twitch don’t we?  Yes sirree.

And so, my lovelies, I have ear-marked Saturday arvo for a bit of downtime courtesy of my bed.

For this mission you will require :

1 bed

copious amounts of pillows

1 bunch of flowers

1 candle

1 pile of books

a pair of your comfiest old pj’s

Your Mission Should You Choose to Accept it

is this :

you must schedule a time

to make your bedroom

as your own

decompression chamber

pop by your bedside

a bunch of flowers

light a sweet candle

your favourite pillows

and lot of soft cozy things

now have ready

your favourite

or online reading material

add your pj’s into the mix

they must

and now get in

and indulge

in some reading

and some resting

and some

just for

enjoy Beach Cottage ladies, mine will be involving actual napping and sleeping, I hope you get that too…

See you soon, I keep promising some blog tips and I have some fantabulous photos of my walk on a beach local to me to show …and then I get other ideas like going on strike, oh the perils of blogging ;-)

oh and p.s. I got nominated for a  Homies Apartment Therapy Award…

I didn’t realise until a reader emailed me so I am right at the bottom

love a vote from you girls, go here please, scroll down and find me lurking at the bottom

please don’t get me mixed up with ‘Beach Cottage Decorating’ a blog that just so happens to have a very similar name to mine ;-)

(you have to create an account which is a bit of a pain but easy to connect with facebook or twitter)

  1. What a lovely idea, Sarah! It’s only Friday here (Oregon, U.S.), so I actually have time to prepare for such a luxurious Saturday respite. Thanks for the permission {wink} to laze around for a bit!

  2. Off to vote for you and I just instagramed (is that a verb now?) my pile of stuff for my ‘Saturday Mission’ C:

  3. Susan says:

There’s not a lot of time left to vote, but I went ahead and cast my vote :)

I hope you are able to relax this Saturday – it’s Friday afternoon here, but there will be no relaxing for me tomorrow – I’ll be working from about 8:30am until close to midnight. I need to wait until next week to catch up on my sleep :)

    Love the pictures!

  4. Ingrid says:

This is exactly what I plan to do after work today. Shower, clean sheets and plenty of rest time. Oh how I love to sleep , especially naps! Enjoy!

  5. Since I have been in bed sick for a few days (sick induced reading did happen, finished “The Help”), I plan to stay as far away from it as possible!

But I do get yer drift… love me a some comfy downtime.

I am back to de-cluttering, wardrobe half way done! Off to vote for THE ONE AND ONLY… A Beach Cottage!!

  6. Sally says:

Sounds lovely. I have a bit of cleaning to get to first, but then I plan to do exactly as you say. Have a good weekend.

  7. Deanne says:

I am in! I actually can feel the start of a cold coming on- shared by some of my children and husband Thanks a lot! So a good excuse to stay in bed and read and sleep.
PS I didn’t reply to your post yesterday because you have visited me in the past – so I decided you knew who I was anyway!

  8. Jos says:

Now that’s my kind of challenge!!!!! I am a die-hard nana when it comes to afternoon naps – in fact if I am writing sometimes the best place to be is in my decompression zone – I set up a cone of silence and tap away. Ahhhhhh – roll on the arvo!

  9. Alison says:

Good timing, since I’m laying down about to take a nap and reading your blog on my phone. :)

  10. Linda jenkins says:

I love this – it has been a tough week here at home and that just might do the trick of recharging myself. Off to work now but I will do this tomorrow !

  11. Julia says:

Isn’t a good nap the best thing on earth?????????

  12. Barefoot Liz says:

I promise I will attend to my much neglected bedroom on Saturday. However, I do not promise that it will look as serene as yours. I don’t even have a duvet cover. Heck, I don’t even have a duvet! Just a blanket or two. One of which is too small. What I’d REALLY like to do is get a new bed.

  13. alison says:

Well Sarah I have been struggling with staying asleep at night for a couple of years. I’ve had a sleep test-no isses there. I do all the “Sleep Hygiene” things as the medical professionals advise-no great results. I tried MenoSleep tablets from the health food shop-promising. I got practitioner-strength supplements from my naturopath-think we have found the key. The dosage may need a little tweaking but some encouraging results at last and large blocks of precious sleep.

I was forced to lay down and rest this week due to illness and you know…something magic happened…I feel better in a lot of other ways too. It gave me food for thought and time to reassess stuff.

And because of your bad influence a new project has popped into my brain-the bedroom makeover. Mr alison is in for a surprise!

  14. Alice says:

Hahaha Sarah…. Forget the cosy P.Js, candles etc…. As long as there is nothing cluttering up my bed (and it is nicely made with the light streaming in) all I have to do is look at it and I will instantly crash with whatever clothes and shoes I am wearing.

In fact I have to keep the door to my bedroom closed so I don’t spy a look and be tempted to crash in the middle of the day during the week…My hubby thought it would be wonderful to take a picture of me and the cause of my sleepless nights one morning. When he showed it around to some people in reply as to why I wasn’t there with him all they could say was OMG. I have no idea how I am still functioning… I thought my uni days were bad!

It’s good weather for this mission…

  15. Kate says:

I am so doing this today. It’s raining, which I love but am so tired from the muggy heat and late nights with family stuff. I intend to skip the reading and go straight to the napping!

The boys have cabin fever, the teen girl is mooching in her pjs and husband isn’t getting home from India until Monday :(

Apparently I am legally required to feed the kids so I have to go shopping in the rain and then I’m hiding in my room while they eat popcorn and watch movies. Will get me some flowers too :)

    Happy restful Saturday to you

  16. Katherine says:

This sounds perfect to me, especially on this wet, wet day! I am going to watch a tv movie at one, then…..I have a mag, I am reading a big book, and that bed and cushions, candles etc, sounds just the ticket! I think I could manage that!
Enjoy your day off Sarah X

  17. kath says:

Of course I’ll vote for you – I nominated you!

  18. Amy says:

HI Sarah! I also nominated you a few days ago, so it looks like you had multiple fangirls nominating you for consideration! I look forward to your blog entries so much! I love all the white in your house. So fresh and clean! I live in the middle of the good old USA, home full-time with five children. I’ve been to Australia once and would so love to visit your beautiful (adopted) homeland again, someday! My house is not on the beach- nor is it anywhere close to one- but a girl can dream, right? Thanks for the smiles, the recipes, and the eye candy photography! Cheers!

  19. Lucinda says:

Sadly due to a toddler running around the house my chances of a beautiful, dreamy reading session are zero. But yesterday my lovely parcel man brought me a copy of thrifty chic, which you have mentioned before so my plan is read while having a cup of tea, with small child running in the fore ground. What can I say its a start.

  20. Julie says:

Hasn’t stopped raining all day in Melbourne – perfect day to snuggle in bed! However a pesky certain someone keeps suggesting he could join me! ;-) Any tips on how to deal with that one Sarah ……

  21. Manda says:

    Hi Sarah,
I didn’t get to climb into bed, but I did get to, (due to the cold snap today) throw on a stripy, stretchy scarf and my favourite pair of soft black flowing pants and strap myself to the sewing machine, to finish off a few of those little bits and pieces that have made my “in progress” basket overflow. So now I am kicking back with a glass of wine and finishing off the last touches for a family dinner. Thanks for the inspiration once again. Enjoy your night out, and resist the broomstick knocking, tomorrow is Sunday, you may even get to relax a little ;)

    xx manda

  22. Pearl Maple says:

All the makings of a great rainy day weekend recovering from the work week
My candle of choice was from Yankee Candle Company the book was Moving Forward and except for a quick break to chase a green tree frog back out into the garden it has been a rewarding day.
Hope you enjoyed your Saturday Sarah.

  23. Jules says:

What a fabulous task! Too busy today though to take to my bed! Have fun – Jules x

  24. Beth says:

You’ve got the right idea Sarah, I hope you got to fully relax. I’ll pop over to the HAT Award site and vote you up. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  25. Carol says:

The last pic of the post is angled perfectly to make the flowers look like owl eyes, so it looks like a pink and gray owl on your bedside table!

  26. Tabby says:

Oh Sarah! Thank you for the wonderful idea. I’ve been fighting a cold all week and caring for my husband who had the flu. That “decompression chamber” sounds delicious.

  27. Sharon says:

I accept this mission!! It is a cold, gray day here and I just got a good mystery out of the library so I’m going to snuggle in and start on it. I already have a lovely scented candle by my bed and lots of pillows and my pajamas are old and cozy so I’m all set. I’m going to brew some coffee and grab some chocolate and I’m ready to go.

May we all be rested and relaxed tomorrow.

  28. Ellie says:

Sadly, I didnt get too far with this mission, kids and a friend in dire need got in the way. But I have great hopes to have my Saturday moment on Sunday….. *runs and locks the bedroom door for 24 hours*…… ;)

  29. Right on with this one!

  30. Kat says:

Well it is now Sunday and after two late nights (like yourself) all I want to do is crawl into bed and nap and read.
Oh what bliss that would be!!
However I need to do the baking for the week, iron the little cherubs clothes for school and home and drag my butt to Zumba this afternoon to keep up with my “get in shape before the 40 is the new 30 cocktail party in 7 weeks.’
Gosh I am tired just thinking about it!! :)
I hope you had a blissful rest yesterday. I can feel my broomstick mood hovering just below the surface!!!!!
Maybe I can get to bed early instead and start the week afresh.

  31. Fantastic mission!!I think I would love to spoil myself with these ideas, especially a lovely candle and beautiful music. Hope your timeout was wonderful. Fiona

  32. Glennie says:

We had a “weather bomb” on Saturday – I believe it came across the ditch from over your way … so yes, books, cushions, a comfy couch as opposed to the bed and a smoochy cat – bliss xx

  33. Does this count?? It’s 10.30 on Sunday night and I just got to sit down with my iPad and a chocolate bar!!

  34. Jasmine says:

I plan to be able to do things like this in my bedroom one day. At the moment the light is very dull and it makes relaxing/reading very difficult! One day!
