Beach Cottage Coastal Blue Vintage Glasses on the Deck

G’day lovely Beach Cottage lovelies.

So, yeah, so on a roll people, so on a roll.

I feel kinda home accessory wired right now.

I am always telling people, if anyone ever listens, that blogging is all about passion, not that sort of passion, but about passion that makes one tick.

Things like this make me tick tick boom.

I love finding things that suit my budget and let me treat my home but look amazing too.

So without further adieu I introduce you, ladies of the beach, to the blue vintage glasses that I have been stroking for about a week or two now…

These glasses are from a little boutique I sometimes happen upon, this boutique sells also pet accessories, carpet cleaner, bras and compost…it’s quite unique though.

And, thanks to my friend Marnie (she blogs over here, go take a look at her praying position, interesting), who just so happens to be one day having me over for a lil’ Greek dinner, has let me in on the fact that we call Kmart….The KMart…with an accent ….as in ‘I love The KMart’…just like her MIL does.  Oh yeah.  Love that.

So I have had my eye on reproduction vintage glass blue wine glasses and being trying to find real true vintage blue glasses for like ever.

Oh yes I have spied them in Frenchy boutiques, I have lusted after them in stores that I shouldn’t even enter and I have put them back pretty quickly in those shops with the hand-written price tags.  C’mon, you know the ones.

And, though all of the above have tempted me, muchly, really, even with my wardrobe stashing skills I just thought that, actually, I’d rather be saving that casherooni for our next trip overseas..

Hello The KMart.

Tick Tick Boom

Vintage style blue wine glasses.

Do not come to my old place and think you might pick up one of these and smile with pleasure at their handblown quality, their weight, and be secretly jealous that my wine glasses cost more than your car…friend, that would not happen…these do not feel like that…indeed these in a funny way reminded me of my baby girl, she was a tiny little thing, with stick legs, the tinsssssssiest ankles and wrists you ever did see, she slept sideways in her cot wedged in between rolled up blankets and would only settle attached to Mr Beach Cottage or I or a (dirty) pj top of mine scrunched up under her nose…the first few times I picked her up to cuddle, being used to Honeymoon Baby who weighed in at 9lbs at birth and has never really stopped growing, I nearly threw her little bird-cum-rat down covered body over my shoulder.

These glasses are like that…be careful or you might lose your wine down the front of your shirt.

But oh baby, we are not talking picking up here, we are not talking quality, we are not talking house accessory snobbery.

Beach Cottage ladies, we are talking aesthetics.

And this is what I need in my cottage.

Blue vintage style glass, paired with coastal / nautical / beach stuff on my deck.

It’s The KMart.

Tune in tomorrow, tomorrow, I have more budget foofing for your home, or maybe it will be the dress that wraps me up in supermarket-chic and makes me feel like me again.

Good Day to you my friends, wanna come hang out on my deck, talk house accessories, The KMart and drink some wine from blue glasses?

Sarah

Gorgeous! I love that style. So glad to see it – hope it’s here in the U.S. too. It looks like Depression Glass. Looks great at your lovely table. Sweet find.

  4. Christy says:

You crack me up! We have a Kmart…oh, excuse me…THE Kmart here…LOL, but it’s not a store I go to that often. Seems I need to change my shopping plans! Those are sooooo pretty, they just make me smile. I have a HomeGoods really close to me, and it’s just heavenly. Usually by the time I hit HomeGoods and then Ikea I’m all outta $$$ so I never get a chance to explore new budget haunts. I think your foofing posts are my absolute favorite. I love your style, and it’s like I’m magically transported to the beaches of Australia when I read them. I can almost smell the salt air….

    • sarah says:

nice comment Christy, thanks so much!

I have heard soooooo much about Home Goods since I have been a blogger lol…I can’t wait to go in one! x

  5. Susan says:

Very pretty glasses! I’ve seen something similar locally at my Target, but they are hard plastic and not real glass. I wish there was a K-Mart somewhere close to me!

    • sarah says:

yes Susan I saw those in Target recently I think they might be the same ones….they were plastic for picnics but nice quality..I didn’t buy them and when I went back they were sold out x

  6. Love the Kmart! Whenever we’re in the states we go to Kmart and target. Great stuff. I always say I’m an equal opportunity shopper.

  7. Selby says:

Sensational! Beautiful glasses and a lovely deck to admire them on- heaven. Could so go that glass of wine too;)

  8. Janelle says:

Oh yes please, I’ll happily come over and spill my drink all down my shirt. Theyre gorgeous! Youre a little bit dangerous this week Sarah, you’ve whipped me into a house accessory frenzy which is sending me to every budget, chain and op shop in my area!! Discovered fab mugs and bowls in gorgeous colours (putty, red, blue) stripes or spots at the Reject shop!!! Not sure if you have that in NSW? Anyway thanks again for the inspiration…and looking fwd to seeing this dress!!! xx

    • sarah says:

oooh I have definitely been in Reject Shop in Australia, but there’s not one near to me…good work!

  10. I think my Grandma had those in in the color “smoke” :-)

  11. Alice says:

Horraayyy!!! I really have been missing out! I am going to go check it out today… THOSE are my kind of glasses girl!!!!!! You have made me one happy girl! Your description of baby miss cottage…. That is my little boy now right down to the sleeping part only you could get away with a scrunched up top… I can’t get away with that, he needs his hands to be tangled in my hair… Husband thought this was so cute he needed to take a photos… It is why I am so tired… It is so unconfortable…But so adorable…I should send you the picture lol! Very different to my eldest one who would be happy to just sleep on one of my PJ tops and a watch ticking away close to her ear…I wonder…. Do they do tumbler type cups too?

    • Julie says:

Alice I saw tumbler style glasses in this design at my local KMart in Vic. Get thee to a Kmart quick smart!

  12. Laura says:

Love your theme this week Sarah- really really interesting and fun! As usual, you excel with your styling.xx

  13. Charmaine says:

Oh….bugger it!! I just went there this morning!! (got easter stuff)…didn’t have time to looky in that aisle…but now I am going to have to go back!! Our Kmart opens at 8am every morning…..which is great ….can pop in before I go to work….do my shopping with not many others around…It’s great!!!

  14. kerrie says:

Well I would never ever guess they are from KMart. Are they glass? or plastic? I the glass french style ones(no stems) from a favorite store of all USA bloggers ~Homegoods! yep, they have the best housewares for the best prices. I have them in this very same blue(my fav), pale pink, pale plum, and amber. I love how you liken your new vintage style wine glasses to your sweet baby girl. My youngest daughter was the same way…so very tiny. But my youngest son was huge…10 lbs 9 oz. And yes I had him naturally with not even an IV…not because I’m a saint but because I’m terrified of hospitals, Doctors, and medicines. After I had him though, my body never went back to the small size it was. He moved things that just didn’t move back! I hope your kiddo that is injured is healing…well wishes to you both. ox I’m sure you are needing a nice soak in your new tub after all the mummy nursing you are doing. ox

  15. Karen says:

    Hi Sarah,
Love the glasses. I have similar clear ones that I bought when I came over last year. Plus the matching jug. Must be the only one who carries fragile things home on the plane in my hand baggage. So much cheaper and nicer than what I can afford here in NZ. I’m always on the hunt for things like this. My daughter thinks I have some type of obsession! Just love beautiful things around me that don’t cost the earth! Love your style. Looking forward to hitting your favourite Nordic store too next trip. Best part of my day when I get the chance to check out your bog. Keep up the good work!
    cheers,
    Karen

  16. I can be there in an hour, depending on traffic!
I’ll bring the wine……and drop sheets!

    Beawdy Sarah!

  18. Jasmine says:

Love them! I love the intricate pattern and how they add a pretty pop of blue to your table.

You know what they would be fabulous for? That delicious cake, cream and berry dessert you posted a while ago! Everything tastes better when you eat/drink from something pretty!

    • Donna Barker says:

You are so right. I have some purple stemmed glasses I drink out of all the time, even if its water! It just tastes better with Class!!!!!

  19. Nicola says:

Well now I wish I lived in Australia for those glasses and that colander, oh and the sun of course!
I would love to sit on your deck sipping wine!
    Nicola x

  20. Deb says:

My friend has the same ones but without the stem. They are extremely strokable!.

  21. I’ve been so busy I’ve missed my cottage fix! All good now – I’ll be round for a wine x

  22. OMG, I love everything. And those mugs from yesterday A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E. I need to become a better shopper with a better eye and a lot more style.

  23. I so…wished I lived near you to come hang out. I am so…thankful to have met you via your blog! You never seem to amaze me Ms. Sarah. Lovin’ those blue goblets as my Mom would say!

  24. kim says:

It must be fate that I popped over here today. We just got a new “coastal” dining table and we’re on a mission to find great tableware. We’ve been looking for little simple wine tumblers like the ones our favorite Italian restaurant uses. But these will be a great addition to our arsenal of choices. I hope our The KMart has them here in the states. Thanks for sharing!!! :)

  25. Deanne says:

They are so cute- wish The KMart was not an hour and 1/2 from here!

  26. Debbie says:

So pretty, makes me want to set the table on our deck with pretty things and eat dinner outside. Haven’t visited The KMart lately, but will go in next time I pass by. And really, your glasses in 20 years will be authentically vintage, you’re just enjoying them beforehand.

    • sarah says:

      haha Debbie that is funny!

enjoy The KMart, be careful or you will have a whole trolley full of stuff x

  27. Marnie says:

    oh, the KMart…bless the Kmart.
Maybe when you come to Melbs we should do a midnight run to the Kmart (my local is open 24hrs)…with Greek food and beer (low carb of course). Strange shopping decisions can be made in the wee small hours….

I soo love your style. And Im thinking of your ecourse on blogging. I have never blogged before, but definetely have somthing to say! I am an out of work Interior Designer. I have been self employed, and loved it. I had an issue once with a customer and have gotten gun-shy to not being insured ( or I should say my husband has). And the Ins. costs too much to afford. Ive mostly sold furniture, but sick or retail!!! So, I thought Id blog, while currently on unemployment. The Job market has no place for an Interior Designer, that graduated from college in 1987.
Although I live in Northern Ky, I have a “coastal style” home. My gardens have tropical flowers, there are banana trees in my yard, and every room is deocrated with a coastal influence. Luckily my husband shares my love! I have an affinity for finds, refurbishing, and pride myself on being thrifty. It would be just like me to look for these beautiful blue glasses and find some at Kmart or goodwill for a little of nothing. I did much the same with some beautiful wine glasses I coveted in a french mag. then found in Homegoods. I get so excited, I get the shakes, crazy!!!
Im sorry this is so long..but felt inspired to write. Your blog is well written and beautiful! And we have much of the same taste and practices. I enjoy it very much and feel a kinship for your love of the ocean, even though I dont get to live it, I fake it pretty well.!!!
Thank your for your inspiring words and pictures!!
    Donna
