G’day lovely Beach Cottage ladies, as promised in the Beach Cottage Club Newsletter (go here if you want to subscribe), here’s where we are at with the bathroom and a vlog of some of the things going in it.

I must say, I think I did not quite appreciate what would go into pulling the old bathroom out and installing a new one, but when you think about it wasn’t really quite as straightforward as that.

We have knocked a toilet and bath into one, removed a wall, blocked up one door frame, re-boarded all the walls, pulled out two windows, re-cut a larger window & fitted a new one and added new moulding to the ceiling…

And pulled up a floor and put the screed on

There has been quite a bit of mess, though the tradies have been very good at keeping it contained…I just don’ t think you can keep the dust away though!

Mr Beach Cottage is has been rocking those boardies, I must say after hours and hours volunteering down the beach at the weekend spending time up this ladder was not what he fancied doing on Sunday arvo…

yep there was a foot shot while boys did their thing

You can see a bit more of what it was like over the weekend in here and the fittings etc that I have chosen

So we are at the waterproofing stage now… that means that we are one the home stretch…and now we get to do all the pretty stuff…do I need any excuse to get new towels, that would be a mahusive NO!

By the way, thanks for all the encouragement on the vlogs, errrm I am still not sure about it, and so much for the accent love, I think I sound terrible ;-) ….clearly you lot think I am some kinda British person wrapped up by a bit of the Australian sun…that’s they way I like to think of it anyway…

Cheers lovelies, oh and talking about sun, Aussie or any, I have a salad for you tomorrow…it’s my Go To Too Easy salad, in fact it’s very the closest I can get in my little life to a storecupboard ‘salad’ and Dump & Go in one hit…now that is my kinda salad…

See ya around, yeah ?  I am off for my walk and some head cleansing in the coastal sea air

  1. I can’t wait to see the finished result – I love the rainwater showerhead and the tapware you’ve chosen.

The outakes are great too lol

    • sarah says:

thanks Kim, there were many more bloopers that were a bit more ahem embarrassing lol, maybe next time I’ll just vlog the lot!

  2. Carla says:

Wow so exciting! Cant wait to see it finished……but then I bet you can’t wait either Lol! Loved the vlog and the outages made me laugh! The camera effect on the second outtake was really cool where it was out of focus and then focused on you after you sat down…….kudos to the cameraman ;) x

    • sarah says:

yeah I love that camaraman…we are working on new things together, it’s fun!

      thanks Carla too kind!xxxx

  3. I just finished watching all of your “vlog” posts, and they are so sweet. I really like the interaction between you and your son. Don’t lose that part.

We have a reproduction bath faucet which is very similar to yours. We also had a rather large shower head (but not THAT large!! :)) We found out after install that that we did not have enough water pressure to force that volume of water through. I would turn it on, and yell at my husband, ” Hey, come stand over me and spit on my head, cause I think that it would do a better job than this $#%^ shower head!” I am sure you have better water pressure than we do, and it won’t be a problem! ;)

    • sarah says:

haha that is so funny Jay! I have lived in a house (rented) where it was similar!

the water pressure here is the other way, I don’t think there will be any problem, though it may blast my head off! I guess I could call this the Hangover Shower

    • Alice says:

hahahaha that was so funny! I have had shocking water pressure in the past… It irritates the living daylights out of me! Too funny, thanks for the laugh!

  4. kari says:

The bathroom is going to be BEAUTIFUL!!! … and as always, I love, love, love the out-takes!

  5. Live the vlogs. You’re super brave to do them. Maybe I’ll work-up the courage at some point. Fear not about the bathroom, it’ll end soon. :0)

    • sarah says:

I am brave, it is scary!!! but I guess you learn a new thing every day

plus you are never as young or stupid as you are right now so I guess it was time lol x

  6. It’s really coming along isn’t it? I know from experience that it feels torturously slow in the moment though… Always enjoy your vlogs, please keep going!

  7. Kat says:

Sarah, I think I need your expertise when we eventually extend and I need to choose fixtures and fittings.
Maybe I just over think things, but I find it so hard to decide!!
I am sure, knowing your taste that the bathroom will be perfect.
    That shower head looks awesome!!
I love these vlogs and your little giggles in the out takes :)
Your son seems lovely and so cool, calm and collected.
You must be counting down the days till that bath!!!! ;)

    • sarah says:

he is very calm and very lovely, I need to take a leaf out of his book sometimes lol

thanks for the vlog love !x

  9. Caz says:

You are so close to the finish now an its going to be a fab bathroom. I have renovated a couple of bathrooms and one was very stressful, it cost thousands more and 6 weeks longer than expected but we got there in the end and I loved my bathroom.

Also loving the Vlog’s they are great :-)))

  10. Kate says:

That was cute and funny :)

Your son does a great job helping you out. And Mr BC has nice legs ;)

Looking forward to final reveal on the bathroom :)

  11. Carin says:

I can’t wait to see what it looks like finished. So nice being part of the reno though. Love the outtakes!

  12. I love your vlogs and I’m so jealous of your shower head…that is going to be magical. I can’t wait to see the bathroom when it’s done. Also, if I ever have a reason to do a vlog, I’m going to put in out-takes, I love them! Although, I have a feeling mine would have a lot of profanity in them…hmm.

  13. Simone says:

Sending some vlog luv, can’t wait to see the finished result x

  14. sarah says:

Simone, cheers for the vlog love xo

  15. Janelle says:

Its coming along Sarah! And enjoyed the vlog, feels like we’re visiting the cottage!! Love what you’ve chosen, lovely and classic. And I must say you’re sounding quite the aussie!!! x

  16. That is my dream rain shower head. And keep vlogging … love hearing your voice and see you sitting on your sofa!

  17. Alice says:

hahaha… Loving the out takes sarah!!!

I know what you mean about having that victorian look/interior in a new build it doesn’t look right… I know because that is the style that was picked out for my bathroom before we bought the house… I like the subway tile too… In the brick patter too.. hee hee… I much prefer it in white but alas my bathroom was done in cream/beige… I could live with that if it didn’t have the border tiles of rose flowers!!! Or all that red!!! They didn’t consider going traditional victorian there(apart from the colour)! I am bursting with curiosity in regards to your floor tiles… I want to get my red floor re-done in lime stone (or perhaps lime stone look tiles -yet to investigate -if budget can’t stretch)… I love stone floors! I will be doing the same for my kitchen and laundry/pantry area… I really love that blue and white pillow/cushion on your sofa… I love that shower head too… I have only heard good things when it comes to those…

  18. loulou says:

    Hi Sarah

Well you made it – the waterproofing stage! (and survived it the horrible thing that it is too :)

lookin-gooood – and getting exciting. Anyone would think it was my bathroom too.
Well that is the thing about blogs and welcoming us into your life – it sometimes gets warm and fuzzy.

Keep you Vlogs up please – they are great and one day I might just take the leap :)

    Have a wonderful day,

    loulou, from hereiamloulou blog

  19. Candy says:

I love, love, love everything you’ve chosen for your bath! We are in the middle of a kitchen redo and I’ve chosen the same white sub-way tile for the backspash. Isn’t it devine? It’s a bonus that it’s economical to boot!! Can’t wait to see the finished project…yours AND mine…lol!!

  20. It looks like it’s going to be just fantastic!
I want one of those towel racks it might get my family to hang their towels up. I’d love you to tell me where you sourced it, I have only been able to find white cheapo ones. Wet towels everywhere are the bane of my life. I have even locked the towel cupboard to try to get them to be responsible for their own towel!
We have that shower head in our main bathroom- warning it does use a lot of the hot water up in winter, but yes the rest of the troops here absolutely love it! Of course mumma here has the water conserving one in the ensuite!

  21. Oh yes- What floor tiles have you picked? We have white wall tiles and a light stone coloured floor tile. They go with everything!

  22. alison says:

Just LOVED your bathroom reno vlog. I can’t believe the taps and showerhead you chose are so similar to what Mr alison and I chose for our ensuite reno!! We currently have white subway tiles and are considering having them again. Can’t wait for the next vlog.

PS Just going back to your spider bite…Poor Mr alison got 6 bites from a little spider (we think), a swooping wasp that stung him and a March fly bite IN ONE WEEK. Australian gardening is dangerous. He’s ok but very itchy.

  23. sonia lidbury says:

Your accent is so cute Sarah – still mostly English with a bit of an Aussie twang every now and then – I love it !! The bathroom fittings are gorgeous – can hardly wait to see the finished result. The tiling usually is done quite quickly so will be very exciting when you see your beautiful tiles on the walls.

I am in love with the cushion (patterned one) on your lounge. I just showed my husband and said “Don’t you just look at it and think I have to have one of those?”. Surprisingly he didn’t share the same urge to have one as I did!!

  24. Clarevbee says:

You’re a braver lady that I taking on this projects but I’m sure the end result will be dreamy :)

Is it weird to say that I like how the walls look in the last two photos, with all the old layers of paint?! xo
