Got to admit I love my JR Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyon LOL! Didn’t even realise you could get cookbooks, etc on Kindles. Show’s how far behind the times I am. Would love to have Jamie Oliver or Nigella or even Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (?sp)’s River cottage books to browse through while I sit on the back veranda whilst watching over my herbs, veggies and crazy chickens :D

  2. Patricia B says:

First of all I would download “Beyond the Cliffs of Kerry.” Love to read in bed. On the beach at Lake Michigan is nice too.

  3. I read at night in bed, sometimes in the middle of the night. This would be a great way to not disturb the other person with a booklight! I’d love a Kindle.

  4. marylou says:

Have been a Nora Roberts fan forever, especially her Eve Dallas character as she writes under J.D. Robb….AND to my surprise I have become a huge fan of shape shifters, ie wolves and vampires and things that go bump in the dark;-)

Love to read at the beach and do so whenever we go camping… living in California we are blessed with many local beaches that are only a few miles away. We set up camp and head for the sand and water….dh is great at toting all supplies while I carry the beach bag and camera! Yes, I am a blessed woman ((*_*)) He reads all about sailboats and I drift off to the underground world and sexy werewolves…*wink**

    Thanks for another fun giveaway;-)

I would download all of the Jane Austen, Neil Gaiman and Christopher Moore books. Neil Gaiman has been my favourite author for many years now. He writes graphic novels, adult fiction, children’s fiction, short stories, poetry, movie scripts, sci fi and fantasy. I’ve never found another author with such range.

I love to read on my vanpool. I have a 100 mile roundtrip commute to work each day and it keeps me from going insane.

  12. Hi Sarah, I am a Canadian snowbird living in Arizona for the winter..so I have the wonderful opportunity to read while we travel 1661 miles between our homes..of course not while I am driving:) I read on planes, in the lounge in the back yard and anytime I am waiting for what ever I am waiting for at the moment..I almost always have a book with me. I love all books by Maria Coffey..she is an adventure writer and just brings you right into her stories. I read classics, and I just love a good old fashioned romance and sometimes a good summer trashy novel. I am open to many different authors and usually read what is recommended to me by my friends.
This is a lovely give away. Thank you..

  13. Mary K says:

Mmmm… I DO want to enter – thank you for the opportunity! I gave my dear husband a Nook two years ago and he LOVES it. He travels quite a bit and it’s great for that, but for everywhere else too! Thought sure I’d get one for Christmas….but, sadly, no.
I’m with you on the beach; unfortunately, I live in Minnesota and we have LOTS of lakes and they have beaches – but it’s not the same as the sea. Second favorite spot – floating in a boat at our lake place in the middle of the state; third – all cozy in bed before drifting off.
I read everything – but love history and literary fiction. Favorite outing for by husband and I is a trip to the local college campus – he goes to the guitar store, I go to the used book store next door. I can get an armful for very little money! However, I heard an author today of a book called “The Paris Wife” – about one of Earnest Hemingway’s wives – I think that would be my first download.

(Sorry so long – book talk gets me going)

    Mary in MN

  14. Isabelle Healy says:

I love to read any chick lit!!!! Sophie Kinsella, Lauren Conrad, anything that requires tissues and chocolate icecream!

My perfect place to read is in my overstuffed armchair with a blanket, uggs and candles……..ahhhhh Bliss!!

  19. Lois says:

I’d put thrillers, mysteries and chick lit on my Kindle IF I win it. I also would love to have it to read it at the beach. It’s so relaxing at our beach in Pensacola. Thanks for your generous offer!

  20. Marelle says:

Oh after my daughters are tucked up and asleep usually around 10pm I climb into bed and open a book, I am really enjoying Ted Dekker’s books at the moment, also love Scrapbooking mags.
It is ok to read into the early hours of the next morning when my husband is on night shift but alas it does not happen often enough so I would adore to win this Kindle!! Love your blog – adore seeing our beautiful country through your eyes! thanks for the opportunity to win this awesome prize.

  21. Melanie says:

I have the older Kindle and I love it but I would give it to my son if I won this newer version. Right now I love to read it in the car or while I am waiting for a doctors appt.

  26. Sue Poole says:

oh my gosh, I have long list of “to read” books. I just finished Oogy and Homer’s Odyssey so if I had a Kindle I’d next read Huck: The Remarkable True Story of How One Lost Puppy Taught a Family–and a Whole Town–About Hope and Happy Endings, and the book Blind Hope: An Unwanted Dog and the Woman She Rescued
I also love nonfiction, true crime, anything about Frank Lloyd Wright, and decorating
and I would read them sitting by the pool on a sunny day or in a nice hotel with room service

  27. KB says:

I’d download Elizabeth Gaskell’s North and South and read it over and over again. Some people find the text a little heavy but it’s a really good read! If you want a preview (video) of the novel, you can check out the BBC mini-drama shown a few years back I think.

My favorite place to read is still in the comfort of my own bed in my room.

  28. KB says:

Followed you on GFC as KB (pink surfboard)

  29. Would love the chance to win this, I’ve been asking my friends who have one all about it. First I’d download all the books we plan on reading in my book club this year, next book is ‘Jane Austin Ruined My Life’. I’d love to download books for my daughter and read them together, she loves Molly Moon!

I would download anything Jane Austin, Firefly Lane, Ina Garten Cookbooks, Blogging for Dummies LOL

  32. Deneen says:

  33. I shared a link on my FB page :)

  34. Marcia says:

What a generous giveaway! Not only can you purchase many wonderful books, but many of the old classics are available for free download. I’d definitely start with a few of those. I’ve become a fan of Andy Andrews, so I’d get some of his books too.
My favorite place to read is…wherever I can find a quiet spot :-) With 8 people in and out around here, that isn’t always easy. In the summertime I go our on my front patio before it gets dark and read. So peaceful there. I always take a book when I go to the beach too. I’ve read many books there over the years.
Thank you for hosting this giveaway Sarah.
    Blessings,
    Marcia

  35. Deb Gray says:

What to download? What to download?

Well I would start with all the great chick lit – Maeve Binchey, Anita Shreve then I would get into some classics such as the Bronte sisters, some Emily Dickinson, Jane Austen. Of course it would have to every single Maeve Binchey cuz she’s the best!

Next would be my fave classic Canadian authors – Margaret Lawrence, Gabrielle Roy, Margaret Lawrence, <—all highly recommended fellow BC fans.

That would be just a start;) I would consider more – top ten, Oprah recommended, some Rachel Ashwell, , Martha Stewart and you know I may have to toss in a Russian author or two, just to impress anyone who may happen to pick up my Kindle to check it out,! hahaha

OMG I could go on and on…'tis better than chocolate and..*ahem* well you know;)

I like to read most anywhere – in bed at night, in the bath for sure (but I an not sure about a Kindle in the tub – the bubble may fog up the screen0) and of course since I live on a beach – a Canadian beach which right now is buried under snow and ice – I would grab a chair and head on down by the water.

After typing this I have changed my mind – my favourite place to read is on the back deck, big old pot of tea beside me, and I could smell the trees, the flowers and enjoy the fresh air.

    wow Sarah – the possibilities!!!!.

Thank you and PS I too LOOoVE your blog – just a nice place to escape after a long day. Maybe you could publish it and sell it on amazon too :):)

  37. Tami C. says:

Get out! I’d love one of those puppies. I would be reading my Beth Moore books, my vegetarian cookbooks and my daughters would be reading All of a Kind Family. Thanks for a chance to win.

  38. What a great giveaway. I’d love to bring it out on the boat. So when hubby is wanting to stay out longer to catch the one that got away I will have something to do. Wow! My eyes nearly jumped out of my head at this giveaway!!!!
For me I would have as much of my uni reading as I could get my hands on on this baby – textbooks and the like are so ginormous and painful to carry around but as a student (with the finances to match) there is no light at the end of the Kindle tunnel for me presently. A little something for pleasure on there also… slightly obsessed with Sophie Dahl at the moment.
Of course I couldn’t go without something for my book mad 2 and a half year old daughter. We are very into the Very Hungry Caterpillar and Love You Forever at the moment.
What lovely things you do for us Sarah!

  52. Pamela Barney LaBanca says:

I would download “84 Charing Cross Road” as my first pick….then probably “A Beach Cottage Blogging In a Sea Of White” by Sarah lol. Next would be “A Year By The Sea” by Joan Anderson.

If I were near the beach…this would be my first choice, but woe with me I do not live there any longer…so… I would curl up in my big poofy chiar with my lamp and listen to the rain tapping on the windows and read….or in my garden on a white wicker lounger….with some tea.

“Who hath a book hath friends at hand, and gold and gear at her command; and rich estates, if she but look, are held by her who hath a book.
Who hath a book hath but to read and she may be a Queen, indeed. Her kingdom is her inglenook—–all this is hers who hath a book.”

by Wibur N. Nesbit (I subsituted her for his/him and she for he)

  53. Cathy says:

Well I love to read any place lol. Some favorites? In the summer the beach and the deck. Other times, on the couch, in the car, always in bed before falling asleep, in the tub, while waiting at the doctors. And I like to read all sorts, but not romances or biographies. Thrillers, Who-Dun-It’s, Twilight Saga, Cheesy Chick Flik, Factual. I’ll give most things a go.

My all time favourites though are: Kane and Abel (Jeffrey Archer), The Green Mile (Stephen King), The Lord Of The Rings (J.R.R Tolkien) and I also love anything by Alison Weir and Phillipa Gregory (Historical). I would definitely download all of these first and then all those books my husband loves listening to on his iPod and then tells me all the interesting stuff about them.

    XOXO, Andrea

  62. Peggy says:

Thank you for this opportunity! I really love reading and with a Kindle, I could keep my reading handy and leave the tote home!
I’d start by downloading “One Thousand Gifts” by Ann Voskamp, “True Spirit” by Jessica Watson, and “The Tempest” by William Shakespeare. I am usually somewhere in the middle of several titles at the same time. I used to think this was strange, but I have discovered I am in good company – and it is probably why so many readers like Kindle!

    • Peggy says:

And my favorite place to read is on a camping chair on the shore of the Saint Lawrence River… but I read anywhere. As I get into the book, I find I am a million miles away.

I am going camping on moreton island so I have visions of me using the kindle in my sandy campsite, nibbling chocolate, sipping camp tea, oh and swattting the odd mozzie (I hear they love it there!).
Winning this would be awe to the some. Thanks for the chance to win!

  67. Kalurah says:

  71. Dream Mom says:

You had me at the “smaller, lighter, faster”! I want to be all of those things! Then I realized you were talking about the Kindle, which I would totally love. As for what I would read on it….everything! I love organizing, decorating, cooking and diet books. I also love to read homemaking books and green cleaning books. I keep an Excel spreadsheet with all of the books I want to read! I guess if I won, I could be like Charlie Sheen….”Winning!”

  72. naphtali says:

hmm….i love to read and I must admit that lately about all I read are cookbooks. I just can’t get enough. RIght now I am reading “In Memories Kitchen.” So inspiring. I ove to read curled up on the couch with a glass of wine. thanks for the giveaway! I love your blog!

  73. Katharyn says:

I love the idea of being able to read a thick, heavy book easily in bed, and the idea that I could read this while at the beach or in the bath is very, very cool!

However, I would give it to my Grandma, who had a loan of one of them from her local council as a trial. She’s fantastic at trying out new technology, and has loved it, but sadly, the trial is over, and she’s missing it! I’d love to see her happily reading a lightweight “book” again!

Book recommendations, though, would be: Just Jane – A novel of Jane Austen’s life by Nancy Moser, Hadassah – One night with the King by Tommy Tenney, Choosing To See – A journey of struggle and hope by Mary Beth Chapman, The Road Home by Tommy Tenney and Mark Andrew Nelson, there are heaps I’ve enjoyed over the years, but these are the recent ones…

Oh, there’s Nurture by Lisa Bevere, and Forgiving the Dead Man Walking as well…. Hope you find some great book suggestions! Thanks for the generous giveaway! xo

  74. Katharyn says:

facebooked this one, too good not to share! :-)

  75. Cindy Hicks says:

I would read Ree Drummond’s new book, /Black Heels to Tractor Wheels, always get every Janet Evanovich’s Plum series book as soon as it comes out (love her!), and just saw a new book today I’d like (and desperately need) Organized Simplicity from the SimpleHome blog.
Also on my list is Heaven is Real, about a young boy I saw on a video clip recently, written by his dad. James Patterson is a favorite, and I love reading cookbooks and inspirational books as well.

And, since I have very poor eyesight, one of my favorite things about reading ebooks is that you can enlarge the print, so I wouldn’t always get a headache when I read!!!!!

  76. Kari says:

Love to read on the back patio, in the sunshine (once the snow melts) about anything that is NOT fiction….. Motivational, spiritual, success-inspired, design and photography books….

  77. Kari says:

Posted a link to your website on Twitter

  78. Shelley says:

Ohhhh!!! I saw a girl on the train with one of these the other day!!! Ummmm………..the book would have to be anything of Tim Winton’s – I want to read them all! And my fav spot is on my shady back lawn – either on a vintage eiderdown or in my old papasan loaded up with heaps of squishy cushions :)

  79. Kari says:

Also joined your Google Friend Connect (just cuz I’m a kiss-up)…. LOL!!

Your great Sarah, wish you lived closer….

  80. Ankita says:

My two cents… I would love to download Jane Eyre and read it all over, once again.

I have read this book so many times, and so many times more I would love to read it again!

Jane Eyre was thrust upon me by my aunt as a must read. “It is about time, you start reading Classics,” she said.

I had read the abridged version once and I was in no mood for a second serving of Jane Eyre. Nevertheless, I took up the task and as I went on from one page to another, I realized that Jane Eyre has been one of the best experiences so far.The book is more of a narrative emanating from a woman who has seen all the facets of life, has suffered through them, has rejoiced and celebrated, and yet, never forgotten about the vicissitudes that life has to offer us at every corner.

The book has purposefully been given a slow pace inorder to enable the readers to cherish every moment of the book and live the emotions that create the entangled web, called the human heart. There lies a deeper message in the stark settings of Lowood School and Thornfield Hall. Embedded in them are the timeless themes of mystery, love, curiosity, patience and shock, malignity and vile; the search for love and companionship. The book offers a plethora of emotions. And the best part is that these emotions are not merely introduced to the reader, but the reader actually learns more of them by living the emotions.

The protagonist of the plot – Jane Eyre, is the enticing element of the novel. And, this is not so because she is the protagonist; rather, it is because she is a character who has been portrayed in such a light that all her emotions are human and the reader may, therefore, relate to them. Her love and faith in Mr. Rochester is something that would inspire the most heartless soul walking the earth. What can be said about an orphan who started off her life feeling unwanted and unloved, but became the sole ray of hope in another’s existence.

We learn that behind that plain exterior exists the epitome of honesty; a lady who can be assertive when she wants to; intelligent and determined, and very much bestowed with the milk of human kindness. She is the personification of a woman who is capable of deep and unselfish love. The beauty of the book is that inspite of showing Jane Eyre as the pinnacle of love and sweetness, she has also been bestowed with the human attributes that we can do without. Hers is a constant shuffle between the choices that her very traits present to her. She vacillates between these very choices that shape her world. It is said that the book received accolades right from the first time when it was published.

The splendid thing about it is that even today, years after its first publication, the book manages to carry the reader to another world where a woman weaves a perfect world out of its not so perfect elements.

It has been years since I first read that book. Yet, I cant even begin to imagine what I would have missed if I would not have read this masterpiece!

And, my favorite place to read it in is in the breakfast nook – the first thing in the morning when the first rays of the Sun stream in slowly and tenderly, waking me up from the warm slumber of sleep into another world of dreams where I can see the beauty Thornfield Hall and romance under the undying charm of Mr. Rochester… It will make my day! :)

  81. Helen Blouin-Duncan says:

I spent many long hours as a teen and throughout my early married life reading every single book ever written by Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney. I loved how descriptive they were. It made me feel like I was there, I could picture their surroundings, smell the scents in the air, hear their voices and the sound of horses on a cobblestone path, feel the wind blowing through my hair. Ahhh…those were the days! I’ve longed to spend time re-reading all those novels again and a Kindle would be an awesome way to access all their splendour. I like to reads just before bed so I can dream about another time, a peaceful era with rich sounds and sights.

  82. Vittoria says:

i love to read in bed (so cozy)! if i had a kindle (fingers crossed), i’d add on classics like “pride and prejudice” and “the picture of dorian gray,” new favorites like “revolutionary road” and “the vinter’s luck,” and lastly the fashion greats like “vogue” and “vanity fair.”

    thanks xx

  91. Bec says:

That would be so amazing! I’ve just staretd reading Water for Elephants in the hard-copy ordinary paper version. I reckon I would probably pop it back on the shelf and download it straight away to my Kindle!! And then would come the books I like reading over and over again… Pride & Prejudice, the Twilight series (yes, I’m Team Edward, so sue me), Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter. And then probably some Lonely Planets for Europe! My husband and I are planning a giant trip soon, and need some what-to-see inspiration!

As for where I read? Absolutely anywhere at the moment. My husband and I are in the midst of a renovation (which has actually required us to move out of our house at the moment – see more at http://www.pourameliorer.com if you’re interested), so I have absolutely no reading nook to speak of right now! How sad is it that my favourite place to read right now is in my chair at my desk at work over lunch?? Because it’s about the only place I CAN read! I’m dreaming of claw-foot bathtime, and cosy armchair and window-seat curl-ups though, believe me!

  92. Lisa says:

First I would download “The Photographers Eye: Composition and design for better digital photos” then of course all my favorites (anything Jane Austen) so I’d always have them on hand. Then I’d download several kids books like “The Everything Kids Knock Knock Book”. My little ones would love that!

My favorite places to read are in bed and in the bath. :)

  93. Michelle Parsons says:

My two favourite places to read are in bed and curled up on a comfy sofa!
I’ve downloaded the Kindle software onto my laptop…and already have a lot of books to read…mainly the classics,
and a few romances, Amish fiction, Charles Darwin – Origin of the species, even a dictionary! To name a few.
I will be getting some cooking, decorating, travel guides, biographies, fiction, non-fiction, quilting books, crochet and knitting books as time goes by.
Waiting for the latest Jean Auel book – released the end of this month…a long wait 20 years!!!
BUT would just love the convenience of the Kindle…a bit smaller than the laptop, and easier to use…easier to take anywhere i choose to go! Even the bath or spa!
And by the way…I love your blog and all your ideas..I’ve always wanted a little cottage by the sea, with all the furniture painted white…not sure if I’ll ever get that…sooooo I’ll admire what you have from afar, and dream about what I love! And one never knows…maybe one day……I’ll have something like that also.xx.

O this would be such a boon to my de-cluttering phase! I would download homesteading books, simplified lifestyle books, classics like Anne of Green Gables, Tolkien’s Lord Of The Rings, the Bible (of course). And my best place to read would be tucked up in my bed… next in line would be the comfy sofa in the lounge room.

  96. bobbie says:

On the beach I’d read anything by Rosamunde Pilcher… in the woodds, I’d read the Tolkien trilogy (for the billionth time!)…

SHRRRRRIEEEEKKK!!!!!OMG!!!!! Are you serious!!!!! I have wanted one of these babies for months now!!!! I desire one of these more than a kitchen aid! Yep you read it right….

At the moment my favourite spot for reading is my newly made up bedroom propped up by the many pillows on my bed, especially on a breezy day. When the 3 windows are open the breeze tickles my skin as it comes into the house, it’s very relaxing.

Before the kids it used to be by the lake (the one with a little bridge) under a tree or in a hammock on a late summers breezy day at Centenial Park.

Closely followed by a quiet corner of a cafe with my earl grey tea and berry almond tart.

As for what I read…. Pretty much anything I can get my hands on! Love fantasy, non-fiction and history novels. I loooove reading cookbooks! I used to be embarrassed until I found out I wasn’t the only one that enjoyed flicking through the pages, drinking in all the lovely and tasty images of the food (hence the love for those pink/blush macaroons)and reading up on the different ingredients and precious cooking tips.

  101. beth says:

    Hi Sarah,
Gosh, you do have the most amazing giveaways…anyhow, to answer your questions, I would download some good Welsh novels – they are a bit scarce to buy here in Aus! They would keep my brain working on the old language. I would also have to have my fav Jane Austens on there, just so that I could dip in whenever I fancied. Where would I read? – in bed. There’s nothing better than reading until you feel your eyes get really heavy and then just nodding off….zzz
    Have a great weekend.

  102. Deborah says:

I would download Atlanta Bartlett’s new book, pale and interesting.. and my favourite place to read is tucked up in bed x

  103. Jacinta says:

Hi, I am undertaking a Psych degree and love reading Oliver Sacks books – interesting tales from his neuroscience practice.
I would curl up and read on my very Aussie veranda, or outside in the sunshine!

  104. Tisa says:

Oh my gosh! So much I would love to read. Adam Liaw from MasterChef Series II (Australia) new cookbook “Two Asian Kitchens”. “Savvy Chic – The Art of More for Less” by Anna Johnson. “The Land of Painted Caves” by Jean M Auel which I’ve been waiting years to read! I love to read in bed, reclining on our patio and anywhere I have to wait! I’m so excited to have found your blog. I adore your style in regards to your home and your writing style. I look forward to more!

  105. Glenda says:

OOH! A giveaway that I really really want. In fact have been deliberating over which type to get – this would make my decision so much easier. As to books – where shall I start?

I have just started a bookclub with some friends so obviously our choices for the year – “The Shack” , “Five Bells” “Juliet” and “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”. Classics which I haven’t read but want to such as “Catch 22″, “War and Peace” and Vanity Fair”, “Dr Zhivago” (not sure if that qualifies as a classic), any crime fiction (my favourite genre) and anything to do which Provence (I keep dreaming one day….).

I love books but don’t have the storage to keep many – a Kindle would definitely solve that problem. Another issue for me is that I live in regional Australia (far north Queensland) – not always easy to get your hands on books that you want – a Kindle would solve that issue as well.

I like to read anywhere and anytime I can snatch ten minutes or so – in bed before I go to sleep, early am on the sofa, in the car waiting for children, at appointments waiting, waiting, waiting, and in a squatters chair on the verandah.

As you can now tell I really really NEED one.

ps I have only recently discovered your blog and really enjoy reading it. Thank you

I’ve just started reading Kathy Reichs. I’m enjoying her style even though it’s a little different to what I’d normally go for.
As for where I would read – everywhere! My truly decadent spot is in the bath with a glass of wine and a frozen Mars bar, but I’ll happily read anywhere I can eek out the time for!
Thanks for such a great giveaway Sarah :)

  108. Felicity says:

If I’m the splendiferous winner I would be downloading a stack of Penguin classics from ‘Animal Farm’ through to ‘Where Angels Fear To Tread’. It would be a nifty way to read in my hammock as I wouldn’t have to worry about turning pages and of course reading in bed at night would be enhanced with the illuminated screen.

    Fingers crossed for me!

    xx Felicity

  110. Great giveaway Sarah!
One of my favourite authors is (was) Richard Laymon. Scary, thrillers. A little like Stephen King but well written and easier to read (in my opinion …lol)
Problem is, I’ve read all of his books and then he rudely went and died on me!!! Very sad.
Oh and I like to read outdoors, somewhere warm and shady with a little Mummy medicine if possible.

  111. Pam says:

Wow what a prize! I just love to read outside lazing under the shade of my Tamarisk tree in Summer… I would definitely download some Jane Austen and other period stories like Larkrise to Candleford and Cranford. Then I’d have to hunt down more books like Kate Mosse’s Labrynth, Sepulchre and other holy grail hunts set in medieval and modern day France.. then I’d check a few Booker Prize winners that I always meant to read.. oh and then of course there’d be French interior Style books, cookery books (Joanne Harris, Jamie Oliver, Raymond Blanc, the Roux Bros) Oh I could go on and on – but I won’t!!

  112. Heather says:

i love to read, particularly out on the lawn on a beautiful spring day like today here stateside. The Name of the Wind, is incredible… the second book in the series A Wise Man’s Fear came out on the 1st and i love it every bit as much as the first. some of my other favorites are The Alchemist or really anything by Paulo Coelho, the In The Woods series by Tana French, and any vintage crime a la Raymond Chandler.

  113. Robynne says:

Dear Sarah, what a great competition..would love one of these contraptions. My fave books are homeware books and I’m collecting stacks here in the U.K. cause they’re so much cheaper than in Australia. With Amazon I order and they’re on my doorstep in 2 days! I’ve just ordered Atlanta Bartlett’s new one ‘Pale and Interesting’, I have her others ‘Easy Elegance’ and ‘At Home with White’. Another you might like is ‘Simply Scandinavian’ by Sara Norrman…absolutely gorgeous. Josephine Ryan is another fave…I think she has 3 books out, but I have ‘Essentially French’ and ‘French Home’. For fiction I love Tom Clancy, Patrick Ryan, Jane Austen and a recent discovery ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’…I now have to add Guernsey to my list to visit! Robx

Thanks for such a fun giveaway Sarah. I’ve just tweeted about you (SummergirlVa73) and posted your link on my FB page and voted for your site :) I will be following you on Google Friends- as soon as I can figure it out …lol.

I’ve been a self professed book junkie since childhood…ahhhh my favorite escape! I love to read travel logs, historical romance (Linda Lael Miller is a personal favorite), frugality books and decorating of old houses…especially if it has a “going green” theme.

My favorite places to read are on our back deck while sitting in my rocking chair with my feet propped up and my pup by my side, or with my toes in the sand overlooking the stunning Atlantic Ocean. I’m also quite known for being early to appointments. What folks may not realize is that I keep books in my car, so that I can read in parking lots before appointments…etching out a bit of extra time for myself :) .

WUT?!?!? You always have the most perfect giveaways, how do you know these things..hahahahahaha! I have a pc version, so it is rather hard to carry my desktop computer to the hammock. That is my favorite place. I can relax and get away from the “work at home” stress. My grand-daughter will crawl up and read to me (she is 4 and really only knows a portion of the words, but can tell a fabulous story anyway) I would also lovingly drag it everywhere I went with my Mom. I am her caretaker, and there are some hours that seem to drag by as she is sleeping through treatment.
I have been really wanting to read “Water for Elephants”, “Lollipop Shoes” Joanne Harris…and favorite kids book for my girl, “The Giggler Treatment” Roddy Doyle, “Where the sidewalk ends”. Those are my first picks, but there are tons more.
Thank you for the chance!!!! I have been saving posts for my own beautifully neutral house one day…thanks for so much inspiration.

I would download christian books, books for my daughter and I to read together, and rachel ray recipes book, (I love her) and and a lot of love stories…. I’m a sucker for a good love story!

My favorite place to read is behind my house under my favorite tree, where just enough shade is present and I can keep my eye on the princess while she jumps on the trampoline…..

  170. Lois Gibbs says:

I’ve been wanting a Kindle for a long time, but especially now, as I have recently moved into a much smaller apartment than I ever had before. I would begin by uploading all of Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb’s books, (same person) and then every book I ever wanted to read but don’t have room for on my bookshelves. Then I’d probably go to cookbooks, and then…..
I love to read in my comfy chair with my feet up, in a room by myself so I can really get into the story. Love your giveaways!

  171. I would load it with Karen Kingsbury, Nora Roberts, The Hole in the Gospel and the Bible to start with. I love to read on the couch or on the porch.

  172. EMMA L HORTON says:

THE FIRST BOOK I WOULD DOWNLOAD WOULD BE THE BIBLE

  173. melissa says:

Ahhh, I love me a good old book, so I’ve been hard to win over to this whole e-book idea, but after playing with the ones that the girls in m y book club have, I was sold on many of the features! I have yet to purchase one, so this giveaway opportunity might just be my lucky day! ;)
Although I’m home with my two young children and expecting a third, by profession I’m an English teacher, so I always have a stack of books that I’m working on. I’d have to say the place where I get some peace and quiet in the evening is definitely reading in the bath, to that’d be #1! Our current book club selection is “Water for Elephants”, so that’d be a great e-book start! I also love anything to do with World War II, so having all of those books at my fingertips would be fabulous! I’ve never considered looking at decor books on an e-book…hmmmm, but the one I’d go right to is for sure Atlanta Bartlett’s new “Pale and Interesting”. I also added myself to your Google Friend Connect.
Thanks, Sarah; have a lovely weekend!

    • sarah says:

wow I thought it was only me who likes World War II books..

I need a normal book club apart from my other book club

Great giveaway! I am dreaming to have a Kindle ! Will read all the classic available and much more…..Imagine myself reading at night when all the kids are sleeping ( i have 4 ) or in the morning with a cup of coffee…….:) :) Thanks for the chanse!

  176. Sharon @ Elizabeth & Co. says:

I would download all my book club selection. In summer, I love to read on the beach. At home, I have a favorite cozy leather chair. What a cool giveaway!

  177. Asya says:

    Following with GFC too. :)

  178. Christina says:

Oh, how I’ve wanted a Kindle for far too long! I just graduated from College, so there will be not a drop of educational books on it. Just purely free reading and books for my enjoyment! I would download all things related to Rachel Ashwell *drool* and then I will probably go crazy on Nicolas Sparks novels, a guilty pleasure I have not had the time to pick up until now.

My new favorite place to read has got to be the beach on Lake Michigan where I live. I just started renting a tiny beach cottage, and the weather is just warm enough for a few blankets and some beach fun. And I get to look for beach treasures when I take a reading break!

    Good luck to all!

I would download decorating books (are there any other kind?). And I would read my Kindle while sitting by my new fireplace sipping tea. But I could also take it with me to soccer pratice, basketball practice, swimming lessons, etc… It would make the time go quicker & I could plan my decorating project! Thanks for such a great giveaway!

  181. amanda h says:

I would download, Eat, Pray, Love… I started reading it long ago and never finished it!! I’d bring it to the beach and read on my towel :) thanks!!

  182. Susan says:

I would love to read all sort of photography and decor books. I cant get enough. My favorite place to read is on my back deck, itis so peaceful! Thanks for the giveaway!!

  183. Barbara says:

Woohoo! I’ve already let it be know amongst those that need to know that this is what I want for Mother’s Day! If I win it, I can ask for something else :)

I downloaded Kindle for my laptop (you can do that, it’s free), just to kind of try it out. It’s nothing like the convenience of an actual Kindle, but I wanted to see if I could get used to the e-reader thing. I can. I started reading “Outlander” by Diana Gabaldon. It’s part of a three book series..time travel/romance/history that takes place in Scotland. THAT would be what I would read first on my new Kindle :)

I mostly read in bed, so the laptop thing isn’t really working out for me :) Summer’s coming, LOVE reading at the beach.

    Thanks for all you do!

  184. mary says:

definatly cookbooks, classics, maeve binchey, elizabeth berg, geneen roth….oh the list goes on and on!
most likely on the couch for reading or on my breaks from work!

My favorite place to read is early in the morning on the back patio listening to the birds with a cup of coffee. Thanks for the chance to win.

  199. kfowler says:

Well, you’re way ahead of me with the friends, facebook, and twitter – and a Kindle! I’ve actually never seen a Kindle, but I’ve heard about them and would be interested to try it. As for what book…well, since I’m a little uncertain about new things, I think I’d try one of my all time favorites that I’m very comfortable with and always enjoy – Dapne duMaurier’s “Rebecca.”

    whit1966@gmail.com

  204. Chrissy says:

Oh, maybe I’d download some ChickLit! I could use something light and funny. My reading mostly entails children’s books lately. I just finished reading “Stuart Little” to my little ones. And my personal reading lately is not all that fun, but it is helpful….”The New Strong-Willed Child.” And I can’t take those in the bathtub with me. But they do come in the….ahem…..toilet room. That’s where the majority of my personal reading takes place lately. A bathtub sounds like a nice place to read!

  205. Linda White says:

  206. randi says:

    Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchey

But I’d also love to read Undecorate by Christiane Lemieux and Rumaan Alam and I’d also like to find a great technical book about working with ceramics since that is where my heart is :)
And my favorite place to read is in the garden, or even in a calm park. But the ultimate favorite place and time is on the sofa while it is raining outside, drinking lavender or jasmine tea!
    Wishing you a great weekend,
    E.

  212. Hi Sarah-

If I had a kindle I would be using it 24/7. Morning noon and night – while cooking, bathing, and watching TV :) I would be reading suspense thrillers, decorating books and magazines. My favorite place to read is the beach. Wish I was doing it right now.

    My best- Diane

  213. Beverly says:

I would read the classics on the Kindle!! My favorite place to read is in bed…..so comfy!

  214. Shar Y says:

What a fun giveaway for an avid reader like myself and the others, of course. I would download “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein. A totally wonderful charming story written from the dogs point of view. It is a must read for anyone. Thanks!

  215. Hilary says:

I would be more of a newspaper and magazine Kindle reader for the most part I think (I will always love having books). But I would also love to have one to take on trips, in which case I would read any of my guilty pleasures! I love reading on my porch

  216. Nadine L says:

I am a mystery reader, some of my faves are Phillip Margolin, Johnathan Kellerman, Micheal Connelly, Patricia Cornwell and I love the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum Series , I would definitely get any of those authors.

  217. Nikki says:

I love to read romance novels, I am a huge fan of the fairy tale happy ending! I would use the kindle everywhere! As wonderful as bookstores are, and how great the library is, being able to instantly download and carry around everything I want to currently read is amazing. I can’t wait to have one and I would definitely have some love stories on it, but also decorating books and some magazine issues that I read–such a more practical way to manage subscriptions! Thanks for the giveaway, you’re awesome!

  218. Sandy Bowers says:

My favorite place to read is in the bathtub followed closely by a big comfy chair in the corner of my “library”. I would be downloading our book club selection every month for sure. Our current read is World Without End.

  219. em says:

I am addicted to history books at the moment.
    Or Kerouac.
Occasionally some chiclit will sneak in for a bit of light relief.

The boy and I have been discussing getting a kindle. Mostly for his trips to india.
But there is nothing better than a deep chair and a story and no plans but to read.

  220. Mary Marlatt says:

I would download mysteries and thrillers. I like legal procedurals, cozies, romantic suspense — all kinds! My favorite place to read is the couch. I have a great light and a comfy spot.

  221. Jennifer says:

Ooh… I’d be reading everywhere. My fav spot is curled up on our comfy couch in the living room (no TV, no toys, no distractions). I’d probably download “My Father at 100″ because I like biographical books but I’d get the ‘Gods and Kings’ series by Lynn Austin to read again. It’s a fantastic, fictional account of the Old Testament Kings. Very, very riveting!

  222. Dawn Hewlett says:

I would probably download black heels and tractor wheels by the pioneer woman and then her cookbook..;)

  223. Lindsay S says:

I would re-read (for about the zillionth time) the Anne of Green Gables series of books. Then I would finally (maybe?) finish the Tao of Physics. A way cool book that I seem to misplace about half way through each time, and then have to start over when I find it months later. As for decorating books….Rachael Ashwell, for sure. Love the look and how the white brings everything together (kind of like your lovely home!) Not big on reading cookbooks…I’m more of a “make this now” kinda cookbook user. Mysteries, for sure. Lots of British cozies with big but shabby manor houses and friendly yet surprisingly homicidal villagers.

Where? Curled up on my love seat. Or stretched out on my beach blanket under the trees, so I have the wonderful dappled sunlight and shade. Or at a sidewalk cafe, at breakfast time, with a lovely cup of tea, my book and a soft breeze. :-)

  224. Ann says:

I love travel books. A Year in Provence was a really fun one to read.

  225. Brandi N. says:

I don’t have a lot of time to read these days with little ones. BUT I do catch moments on my lunch break. Either in the car or at a local park to enjoy lunch a reading. I am fairly new to Kindle too…but imagine how many printed out pages that would save. Lots of trees!

I love a good soak in the tub with a book too. I wouldn’t be steaming up the corners/pages of any more books (I like really warm baths) if I had a Kindle! I’d love to win one!

  245. Barefoot Liz says:

Novels based on love, family, and friendship. Novels by great authors such as Elin Hilderbrand, Sherryl Woods, Nicholas Spark, Elizabeth Berg and among other great authors. Great giveaway thanks for the opportunity.

  462. Childrens books for adults – anything Diana Wynne Jones – and gardening books like The Edible Front Yard! I love reading in a sunny peaceful corner of the living room with tea, or snuggled deep under the duvet with chocolate!! Or in the garden on a picnic rug on a sunny day, hens clucking around me pecking curiously at my book from rime to time, wondering what s so fascinating!

I feel like sitting on an aeroplane, resting my legs on the chair. I hope that I can win a Kindle! I wouldn’t have to carry tons of books when all of them can be placed digitally into a stupendous Kindle!

  478. Kerry says:

I grew up in a large, noisy family where I shared a room with my two older sisters. We had a downstairs loo that was rarely used (mostly because it was always cold) so I would go in there for some peace and quiet while I read my Roald Dahl books.

My choice in books has matured slightly, I love anything by Marianne Keyes as well as topical books on decorating and cooking, but my first choice of place to read has stayed the same. Of course nowadays I have a radiator in my loo!

  479. ferriz says:

I’ve kept a MS Outlook book wishlist for ages but since I discovered the Book Depository wishlist that is actually one of my favourite reads. I gaze at it lovingly while imagining owning all those books in a library not unlike Diane Keaton’s, only a little cosier(sad, I know).

Recently added: Elizabeth David’s French Provincial Cooking (have wanted it for years just haven’t got around to it), Kathryn Ireland’s interior design books, Bobby McAlpine’s The Home Within Us, Annie Sloan’s Quick and Easy Paint Transformations (just read about the chalk paint), The Just Bento Cookbook, Wholefoods for Children, Waldorf/Steiner craft/activity books (so beautiful), The Complete Grimm’s Fairy Tales, connection and mindful parenting books, John Holt unschooling books, Jackie French’s Chook Book, don Miguel Ruiz’s The Four Agreements, Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, Harriet Walter’s Other People’s Shoes…. Just finished Jane Fonda’s My Life So Far and am LOVING reading my favourite, Alice in Wonderland, to my nearly-four-year-old for the first time. Reading it out loud is a whole new world of fun and beauty.

I have two munchkins (nearly four and nearly two) so my reading is limited to in bed at night for the whole ten minutes or so I can keep my eyes open. Luckily, after a long, hot shower, it is my favourite place to be and indulge in my favourite pastime.

There, that wasn’t so bad for my first comment on your blog! Lurker no longer!!!

    • sarah says:

well Lis I am very very impressed with your first comment outta Lurkdom

welcome and I am telling you Elizabeth David French Provincial Cooking is probably one of THE BEST BOOKS i HAVE EVER OWNEd…and the paperback is cheap as chips..

she writes like a beautiful English dream…

I can’t get enough of her or her cooking

      or her non-illustrated books

      bring on Elizabeth

      • Lis says:

Thanks for your kind reply! I’m chuffed.

I just realised reading your other comments how much fiction everyone else reads… and how little I do now. I can’t since “the children”, it makes me antsy, like I should be doing something else (mother’s guilt?). Except for reading to the kids of course. But just thinking about reading a ‘novel’ gives me the willies these days…

  494. Lim says:

Terry Pratchett, LOVE him, and the runner up would be Jim Butcher. Both have real skill at characterization that keeps me emotionally invested.

Favorite place…wherever I am. There is a comfy chair at home in the living room with great lighting, but I’ve spent an eight hour day in the car reading (I had chauffeured a family member to a long class and needed to stick around. Home was just about two hours away, so I read.)

  495. Alexis says:

I read books of all kinds! I love to read those books that have ‘de-cluttering’ and decorating tips, even though the ideas don’t get implemented like they should. :) Otherwise, anything fiction usually goes. I like to read Nora Roberts and Fern Michaels, for instance, but also read James Patterson and Nicholas Sparks frequently. My favorite place to read is in the bath, since the times of me being able to read on the beach are few and far between! (I usually have the kids with and need to keep my eyes on them). :)

My favorite place to read during the summer is on the back porch with a cool drink beside me. During the colder months, I like to read curled up on my big, comfy chair with a hot cup of tea or hot chocolate. Thanks.

  505. Karen says:

For me it’s decorating! Books and magazines, give it to me! My favorite place to read is at the end of the evening in bed when it is fall and winter here but in the summer it is at our little lake house up north, sitting in the shade of the pine trees down by the lake. This woule be so great to win, then I wouldn’t have pages blowing around!

  513. Jenny says:

I would definitely download the Harry potter books, several cookbooks, “why I write” by George Orwell and “Dan eldon: the art of life” by Jennifer new. My favorite time/place to read is while traveling on airplanes. I do this pretty often and while I am loathe to give up books, it certainly would lessen the weight and size of my carry-on. I’m hoping they start including a free download code in books like they do in my vinyl records. That way, I can purchase it in analogue form and still get it digital at no extra cost. That would be wonderful.

  514. How wonderful it would be to have a Kindle ~ I would read all of Frances Mayes books (author of Under the Tuscan Sun), her love of decorating and renovations in a gorgeous Country create dreamy pictures in my mind. If not lounging in a bubble bath you could find me cuddled up in a sand dune along the seashore reading with my new Kindle ;o)

I would probably be downloading a lot of home renovation books. We are looking for a house and just found the “perfect” neighborhood. All the houses in the neighborhood were built before 1950, so we will probably be doing a lot of updating very soon:)

  546. Mary says:

I’d love to download and re-read all Charles Dickens – they are magnificent stories and it’s been too long since I actually read them.
Favorite place to read – cold days, the white slipcovered loveseat in the bay window of my bedroom, looking out over the front garden. Warmer days, in the Victorian gazebo in the back garden, ceiling fan on low, nice cup of tea and a few English biscuits within reach – chocolate Digestives always a winner!

I would download tons – I always have time to kill when waiting for my kids to finish their extra-curricular activities. I love Jodi Picoult & also reading trilogies…My definite most favourite spot to read is on a balcony looking over the beach with a nice glass of wine

  576. jan says:

It used to be the bath and the beach as favourte reading hideouts but now with 3 teenagers
and a 2 yr old my best place of escape is in my chook yard….yes chook yard ….under the gum trees (sometimes with
a kookaburra or two) with a distant view of the beach ……the little boy chases the
egg layers and I get some fresh air…sitting on a vintage garden bench of course…………..

  577. Mike says:

I am on a Steinbeck kick right now. So, Grapes of Wrath, Sweet Thursday, Travels with Charlie, etc. The new CJ Box book is coming out soon, so I’d get that. And download all of Joseph Wambaugh’s books – it’s been a while since I read those… Anything Clancy or Robert Heinlien…

  596. Wow — great giveaway!! I would download ‘Shantaram’ — it’s been on my “to read” list for ages! Another perk? It’s a pretty big book (I think ~900 pages?) and so carrying it around on the Kindle would be so much easier :)

  598. Lindsay says:

I love to read during my lunch break at a little cafe down the street from where I work. The cafe also sells antiques, which occasionally end up in my house :) My taste in books varies a lot, depending on my mood. But my favorite author is probably Gabriel Garcia Marquez (100 years of solitude and Love in the time of Cholera). Even though I read the english translation, his style is so poetic and his imagery is so beautiful.

My other favorite book is a kids book called The Phantom Tollbooth. If you haven’t read it, READ IT. It’s adorable and so fun.

  607. Angelica says:

My favorite place to read is at the beach. Though I live 5 minutes away–I don’t get to spend as much time there as I’d like. I love to read your blog because it takes me there when I cannot go myself. So . . . I actually have to listen to audiobooks in the car on my way to and from work. Not nearly as nice as sitting and reading, but it sure makes the commute a lot easier to take! I have an eclectic taste in books, so I read alot of everything. I would download Maeve Binchy novels and carve out some beach time– drinking it all in and loving every minute of it!

I would use it for my book group picks….several members have them and have wowed us with their ability to buy a new book on the spot when someone recommends it…our next book is Ghost at the Table by Suzanne Berne. I like to read in bed or on the couch, but with warm weather coming here in the US, I’d love to use it outside on our screen porch while enjoying a nice breeze and a cool drink while sitting on the swing.

  618. Jennifer from WI says:

I would download a few of my favorite fiction authors and some recipe books. With a 5 year old who is in school 2 1/2 hrs a day , I don’t have time to go to the library any more, BUT I do like to get to school about 5 minutes early so I have some quiet time, reading, listening to the radio or making my grocery lists. It would be great for bedtime reading as well as you don’t have to hold the pages back. An awesome giveaway.

  626. Susan says:

I’m with you, love to read in the tub. Well, actually not exactly in the tub with you….decorating books, Peter Mayle’s books on Provence, Nancy Atherton cozies, Greek cooking books (getting more interested in it), my fav publisher is Baen books (sci fi and fantasy) and as I can’t afford new books, I spend a lot of time at our library. Can’t read fast enough sometimes…and my house looks like it! I can read the local paper where my mom and sisters live and keep up that way. I work part time at my kids’ school as an upper school lunch monitor so I spend a lot of time outside & this would be nice as I make my way around the parking lot to make sure they aren’t killing each other, making out in the corner or other silly stuff like that. And I could d/l and discuss the books that they are reading and discussing. OT, but I swear, I’ve never run into kids before that are waiting for the bus and discussing Nietsche, Moby Dick, Milton’s Paradise and arguing over exactly WHAT the author was trying to say. Of course, these same silly kids fill water balloons and throw them at each other….in the snow. Back On Topic now…in all actuality….I’d probably turn around and send it to my recently deployed son….he’ll be gone for minimum of a year and probably til July 2012…but we had a lovely chat via FB this AM so mom’s happy!

I just love to read…..I am very much reminded of that as I pack my books to move. I have struggled to pack them because….what happens if I want to read one in the month before I move so I had the mission to read as many as I could before I packed them. It kind of slows down the packing. What I read depends on the day. Perhaps to day is a simple happy love story or maybe it is a crime drama where the investigators use extra senses to solve the crime. Some days it is light hearted science fiction others it is a biography of an amazing person or at least one that thought they were just a person but did amazing things. Maybe the crime drama has a tinge of romance or perhaps it doesn’t. Sometimes it is following a group of characters that have become friends through a series of books such that you are almost sad to finish because you will miss them.

I love to read everywhere. On a plane, on the beach, in bed, on the couch, floating in my pool, soaking in my tub, while I eat, while I exercise, and I listen while I drive. I wish I could read while I ride but unfortunately that doesn’t work but listening to an audio book works.

  685. Victoria Melhado says:

I would download classic books if I had the opportunity to receive this. The best places to read are definitely the beach, in the tub, and at the park :)

  686. Belle says:

I don’t particularly enjoy reading but I think if I had this I would read more. (I prefer digital than on paper)

I would read anything by Donald Miller :)

  687. Isabel Brown says:

I would download all of the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels like “Tarzan” and all the Jane Austen novels. I would also download some reference books too and get my daughter some textbooks for college.

  688. Nick says:

I enjoy reading next to a fire, though this time of year wouldn’t really be a great time to sit next to a fire place. I like reading political ramblings of serious right and left wingers, makes it easier to figure out that not many people are crazies, just the people that write the books and talk about politics.

  689. Sharon says:

I would read Eat, Pray, Love. I know I’m way late but instead of reading it I gave it to my daughter! My favorite place to read is on the beach but more commonly on the sofa. Love your blog and I’ve signed with the friend connect.

  690. Jane says:

I just want to say I love your website and check it regularly for decorating ideas! I would read anything and everything on a kindle! I love to read and usually have to take an extra suitcase when i go on vacation just for all the books I read. A kindle would definatley cut down on the extra baggage. I love to read anywhere – curled up in my favourite chair, the couch, beach, bed, boat or also in the tub. I think the first thibg I would pick to read would be Jen Lancaster’s new book “My Fair Lazy”. I lover her witt, humour and the crazy situations she always gets into. Thanks for running the contest and look forward to many more ideas from you.!

p.s. posted a link on my Facebook page so more people can find you!

  691. Amy C says:

I would download Pride & Prejudice because it is my favorite. I have always wanted to read My Life in France by Julia Childs. I would also want to download some of her cookbooks too. My favorite place to read is in the bathtub but I would be to scared with a Kindle.

  692. Amy C says:

new Google Friend Connect follower :)

  693. Kelly B. says:

I would download Little Women and read it in the bathtub–it’s my favorite place to read–hopefully I wouldn’t drop it in the tub!!!

  694. Lisa says:

I guess I would first download the classics that I’ve never read. I can at least rely on the standard of writing there not to let me down; although I would miss the feel and smell of old books. Finishing reading them would be interspersed by the additions of recent bestselling fiction and young adult novels that I find interesting. I’ve recently discovered Ben Aaronovitch’s Rivers of London/Midnight Riot and in turn, the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. I was also recommended The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino. As to where I would peruse the digital tomes: In bed firstly, then outside in the shade with a few pillows and a drink, then maybe on the sofa, also surrounded by pillows, a drink, and possibly a blanket. For me comfort is key. I’ve never tried in the tub, although I hear it’s really great. I think it’s because I’d rather not take the chance of accidentally immersing a book (digital or otherwise!) in liquid.

  695. Kathy S says:

I would download my cookbooks, so when I visit my grown “kids,” and their families I can cook my favorite meals for them. I would also download specific decorating articles to bring with me when I shop for items for my home. I would definitely download all of the works of Charles Dickens. This is on my bucket list of things to do before I die….My major in college was English Literature, and I’ve already read the works, but since that was 40 years ago…I do so want to read all of them again. My reading would be done anywhere and everywhere…whenever I have a free moment, I will read! Thanks for this lovely giveaway.
ps: As a photographer, I am so impressed and inspired by the photos that you take and post on your website!

  696. Lisa says:

I would download parenting tips/books/ideas as a new Mama to my baby girl. :-) thanks for the awesome giveaway!! I’d LOOOVE a kindle…

  697. Lisa says:

  698. RobdeC says:

Hi, Sarah! My Kindle would probably have “The Little Prince” by de Exupery. This is one book that would present itself a different meaning for every period in my life that I read it. It is such a “generous” book and I always learn so much – reading it is always a new experience. “The Bridge Across Forever” by Richard Bach is another favorite. More than the usual love story it is a story of the “journey” that the heart takes while in a relationship. For an action-packed adventure, Edith Hamilton’s “Greek Mythology” is a must for me, and for poetry – because there should always be a bit of poetry in our lives – Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophet.”

My perfect reading spot is always by the windowsill (any windowsill!) where the light is always perfect. Whether it is in my parent’s house in the province or a commercial beach resort, I make it a point to make that corner of the room a marvelous place to read!

  699. Beth says:

I would download some of the classics I’ve always wanted to read but haven’t gotten around to. My favorite place to read is curled up on the sofa with an afghan.

  700. Erin E says:

I would love to re-read all of my favorite James Patterson books on it, and also discover some new pregnancy books. I love to read on our oversized L shaped sofa. Thank you for the lovely giveaway.

  704. wendy says:

  705. LauraW says:

I’d download just about anything and everything. I love to read! I also love to read in my papasan chair, so comfy!

  707. Carrie says:

I want to download all of the classics! I generally read on the sofa, but have been known to read at work as well. ;)

  708. Angela says:

I would download the Harry Potter series, Water for Elephants, the Millennium Series, and Seventy-Five Receipts for Pastry, Cakes and Sweetmeats, by Miss Leslie, which is a free cookbook that looks like it’s chock full of interesting recipes. Did I mention it’s absolutely free to download for Kindle users? Oh, yes. It is indeed:
    http://www.amazon.com/Seventy-Five-Receipts-Pastry-Sweetmeats-ebook/dp/B000JQUPFK/ref=cm_lmf_tit_13

The best place to read books for me is in the bath. Cookbooks, on the other hand, I’ll save for reading in the kitchen. ;)

  709. nicole says:

I would download the newest J.R.Ward book and I love to read in the tub. They make waterproof boxes for kindles too.

  710. nicole says:

I am a GFC follower (coliebear).

  711. Paula S says:

I would download one of my all-time favourites – Pride and Prejudice – as my battered and much-loved copy went missing a few years back. I miss it! Then I would go and sit by the creek at our local park and let the kids stay as long as they liked!!

Cheers, and thanks for the chance at a really great prize. P.xx

  712. Jacob LaFountaine says:

I like to lay on the couch to read

  713. kittycardero says:

I would get the new Maeve binchy book, Minding Frankie. I like to read in a bubble bath, in bed or on my lounger outside.

  714. Minnie says:

I would definitely get cookbooks on this one, and non-fiction books like the ones by Malcolm Gladwell. I like Christian literature as well so am looking forward to reading those on a thrifted vintage bench I got in an antique market. Totally inspired by your blog and your own thrifting adventures. :) It’s in my room, across from the window facing the neighbor’s garden. Fantastic view!

  715. Crystal says:

As an English teacher, I would love to say that I plan to download some classic literature and inspiring writers.

To be honest, it will be decor books, teen fiction and chick lit all the way!!

My favourite place to read is either in bed, or in the hammock on the verandah.

  716. Ashleigh says:

I would totally put all of the Harry Potter books on it so I don’t have to lug around those huge books. And my fvorite place to read is all snuggled up on my bed or out in the sun!

  717. Jill Myrick says:

The first book that I would download is “The Notebook” by Nicholas Sparks as it’s my favorite book. But I also love reading anything by James Patterson as well.
My favorite place to read is a lounge that I have placed under a window.
I love that the sun shines in just so during the day. And it’s the perfect place to curl up and read during the cooler months.

  719. Helen Headley Faringer says:

I would take it to Cannon Beach stretch out in my beach chair, pour a glass of wine, and read my book list from book club. (The Help, Alice I have Been, My Antonia, Princess of Cannon Beach, Zoo Keeper’s Wife)!

  720. jane gray says:

my favorite place to read is sitting on a beach chair on my dock (or on the beach) or sitting on my deck. . . but it’s too cool here for that yet. so i have to be content with reading in my recliner in the living room and in bed. if i win the kindle, i will be reading memoir after memoir on it (along with some decorating books). and some good fiction. and. . . and. . . and. . . ok, i just love to read!! :)

  721. Rebecca Adams says:

The first book(s) I would download would be the J.D.Robb books. It’s what I call mind candy. Maybe some of David Weber’s books about the hradani champion? I have three favorite authors, and I go to each depending on my mood. Police drama/mystery (with Robb’s), Fantasy (like David Weber) or historical – Stephen Lawhead does some intense historical fantasy. I rarely come out of a library or bookstore with just one book so it’s hard to say which one. I would spend a few hours seeing what I could afford and download them all! Where is my favorite place to read? ANYWHERE! It’s one reason I want a kindle, so I can take it with me. In the car, waiting for whomever I taxi’d that day, riding with my husband (if he’s the taxi driver of the day), on the beach and (broken back – waah) when I’m on the heating pad. Waiting rooms? No problem! In a corner? Yes. My all time favorite place to read? In a quiet hidden corner of the yard on a hammock. Absolute heaven!!

  722. Ashley says:

I’m a mommy of three-year-old twins, so my books have consisted of Corduroy, Curious George, Dora, and Froggy. If I had a Kindle, I’d tell them it was only for grown-ups and would read something for adults! I wouldn’t even actually be all that picky what I read or where I read!

  733. Holly says:

I would load all of the books by NICHOLAS SPARKS – he is my favorite author. I love to read in front of the fire. But carry a book with my all the time, having a KINDLE would make it easy to always have a book ready when I finish one.

My favorite spot to read is on a porch swing or a quiet cafe while having a cup of Earl Grey and some scones.

Right now, I use my iPod, but sometimes the light irritates your eyes if you read on it for too long :( Kindle shouldn’t have the problem, right? :)

I have the loveliest spot to read! I’ve got one of those old bungalow porches that overlooks my front garden. I sit in my porch swing, with the wind chimes tinkling behind me, and a cool glass of iced tea (sweet of course, cause that’s what we drink in the South!) on the table next to me. As to what I’d like to read on my new Kindle, it would be Southern fiction. I just heard a new book from Sarah Addison Allen has come out, called The Peach Keeper. That one is next on my list! Mary Kay Andrews, Anne Rivers Siddons, Dorothea Benton Frank, and Sue Kidd are some of my favorite authors.

  768. Stacey J. says:

While the beach is by far the best place to read, I also choose my back porch to get lost in a good read. I would probably download a few decorating books for fun, but to get entangled in new James Patterson would be my choice!

  769. I don’t really want a Kindle…..but if you wanted to pick me…i would gladly accept.

  770. then i will possible do another FF;-)

read, is usually on my bed curled up with a throw. But where I really love to read is on my lawn chaise when it’s sunny outside.

  788. katie says:

I read in the tub. However.. I would be scared to take the kindle there (on account of the fact that more often than I like the book I am reading ends up drenched!) I also like to read in bed and in a comfy chair in the sun…I always like to have a book with me…just in case I have time to read. I would probably download the Host by Stephenie Myer as well as some Phyllis A Whitney and Mary Stewart…and maybe the frenchman’s creek by Daphne DuMaurier.

  789. Jen says:

I had so many years of not having time to read that I’m now making up for it a little. I would read such a variety of books – from soft thrillers (currently Kerry Greenwood) to Tolstoy. My favourite place to read is propped up in bed with a cup of tea when I can have a slow morning.

  794. Brian Morris says:

I think I would down load some poetry by Robert Frost, sit by my fire place with a warm cup of tea, and ponder what Robert would have thought if he knew his poetry was being read via a kindle. A road less traveled? Perhaps not so much any more.

  795. I would download biographies. I love reading about all the amazing things people have done. I’ve never been the best reader, but I do love curling up with a good book. Or in this case, Kindle. :) Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  801. Tren Huang says:

I want to read Sci-Fi on a beach!

  802. Katie S. says:

What would you download to read on it? I like mysteries, sci/fi, and fantasy books best. There are a few current series that I’m reading, but mostly I’d probably get books from the Googenheim project and whatever my library would loan me. While I buy books on occasion, I borrow most from people and libraries or download freebies. Its not that I don’t support the authors, I just usually find more enjoyment in receiving knowledge and entertainment then buying it. That being said, you should see my book collection, its a little too massive – which is another reason an e-book reader would be nice.

Let me know where your best place to read is. My 3 favorite places to read are as follows: 1st, in bed (with or without hubby warming me up). 2nd, in my office at work while I’m supposed to be working – the boss sprung for a super nice chair and my office has a door :) 3rd, believe it or not, the front passenger seat of my car. It reclines perfectly and its just comfortable and quiet – I guess its just a habit I picked up from my younger days when I didn’t have places where I could read comfortably and my car was about the only option I had.

  803. Jan Johnson says:

Louise Penny – a fantastic mystery writer I just discovered! Or maybe the Jamers Herriot books – the All Creatures Great and Small series – I am ready to read those again!

  804. Paula says:

So many psosiblities..some Mary Oliver and Billy Collins poetry…some mysteries, and some gardening and journaling books!

  805. Erica C. says:

I’d download all the J.D. Salinger stories I haven’t read yet. I like to read for an hour so before I go to bed. It’s nice laying in bed all cozy with no one bothering me!

  806. Ashley says:

I was JUST pondering getting a Kindle – I have books EVERYWHERE and my partner is getting annoyed.

Here are books on my wish list that I would download:

Let the Great World Spin: A Novel
    by Colum McCann

Griftopia: Bubble Machines, Vampire Squids, and the Long Con That Is Breaking America
    by Matt Taibbi

Half Baked: The Story of My Nerves, My Newborn, and How We Both Learned to Breathe
    by Alexa Stevenson

    Great site & great giveaway!

  807. Ashley says:

Aaaand I’m on the Google site now too. Stalking complete!!

  808. Connie Richardson says:

Books, and more Books, novels, fiction, books about animals, and tractors, and cows and children, and crafts and cookbooks. Ah to not have to go to the libarey and put my name on a waiting list for a new release, would almost be heaven. But I would miss my friends there. Just pick a book, and brew a pot of tea, and grab my favorite blanket, and put my feet up, and Read. Read late into the night, and keep reading even when you know that you will be pooped at work, because you just have to know the ending. It doesn’t matter who wrote it, it only matters that I care about the people in the book. Take the book with you everywhere you go, so you can read at the dentist’s office, or while you wait in line at the market, or while you wait for others to show up for a meeting. The only thing I can say is Please pick me.

  809. Patricia Ellis says:

I love to read in my bed under mounds of blankets. Still cold here in the upper northeast part of the US.
In the summer, I prefer the beach. A nice chair on a porch or deck is fine too. I love to read a book with deep meaning.
One with depth that will leave me breathless thinking and reflecting on my own life. I like a good love story.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  810. This would be awesome for trips to the park with my three year old twins (when I’m not chasing them around). I would probably read a James Patterson book. I love light reading in the summer!

  811. I’d download all the books I’ve always wanted to read but didn’t want taking up space, like Animal Farm and Catcher in the Rye. My favorite place to read is my chaise/sofa. It’s perfect!

  812. I’m following you on google friend connect. :)

  813. I’m a GFC follower.

  814. pamq says:

Oh, wow. How would I narrow it down??

I would go for some decorating books which I like to drool over and then ignore.

I love to read armchair travel books because I pretty much stay home all the time and I don’t fly. So I go to France, England and Italy a lot in my mind…….

Otherwise, who knows. I just plain read lots.

My favorite places to read are at the dinner table, in a big comfy chair, or in bed. :-)

  815. Albert says:

I read anything and everything! I particularly love spy, war or secret agents novels (love you Clancy!). I also read memoirs by automotive or aerospace legends, true stories, fiction, nonfiction, mysteries, magazines, history books, and so much more! I just love going to the library and getting all sorts of books and just reading.

I love to read in my backyard, next to my pool. The sounds of the water and nature are so relaxing, and the light is great, not too bright, but enough to see. I also love reading on the roof. I dont’ know why, something about being high up is mentally stimulating to me

  816. Melodic Mom says:

I love to read fiction books- Fall On Your Knees, White Oleander, the Twilight Books, the Harry Potter Books, The Summerhouse. I used to like to read laying down on the couch, but now I have to read sitting up (while nursing).

  817. theresa says:

Have to download Gone With the Wind! I have read it many times and never get tired of it. Great giveaway!

  818. colette says:

I have something embarrassing to admit. I have read maybe 5-6 books in the last 3 years! Before having children, I read all the time & make frequent trips to the library. I love reading, but just don’t have the time to go to a bookstore or library & browse through the books to find what I want. But…..if I had the Kindle…..I could just quickly look them up & download them & have it w/ me while I am out & could read them whenever. No need to find the time/energy to get out to buy a book.

  819. I would download “Swamplandia!” by Karen Russell. The description sounds so incredibly different. My favourite place to read is at our cottage… either in the sunshine on the beach or inside under a quilt while listening to the rain on the roof.

  820. MannaB says:

I would download The Mind Readers by Lori Brighton. My favorite place to read is cuddled up on the couch with my puppy.

  821. Stump says:

I love history books and a fantasy series called DragonLance.

  822. Terry Moore says:

I would download some good Kingsbury Christian books and read them in my back yard porch swing out back under the tree OR I would download my blog favorites and enjoy the latest. Maybe some good decorating books read under my pergola and plan my next plan of attack for a decor change.

  823. karen h. says:

  824. Amie says:

I would love to download classics. My favorite of all time is Anne of Green Gables! My favorite place to read is an oversized chair that sits in our family room by a window. So relaxing!

    • Amie, my 10 year old has just started to read Anne of Green Gables and I am having a hard time getting her to put it down to do chores! Good to know that it is still inspiring young readers year after year.

  828. I love to read mysteries, short stories, gardening books, cook books and decorating books and magazines. My favorite place to read would be curled up in a soft comfy chair with a blanket but mostly my free time to read is in a cold, hard chair AT THE RINK!!!! I have a 10 year old son in hockey – need I say more?

  829. Jami says:

Oh, I would love to win a Kindle. I love fiction and want to read “The Last Song” by Nicholas Sparks & “Twilight-Eclipse”…and some of the recommendations above! My favorite place to read is sitting in the sun but considering there is 7″ of snow on the ground, my bed is the next best thing.

  830. Jami says:

    Facebooked it.

  831. Jami says:

Clicked the Google FC a while back & have been a subscriber, my sweet.

  832. Where to start – books I love and where to read them, have you got all day!!!!

As we move often (every 12-18months) one of the first things I do in our new rental properties is find my little reading spot! In this house I have two – one is on the patio out the back, with heaps of roses in the garden it is a perfect warm spot to sit and devour my latest novel! The other is for winter days, in the front room in a big cosy armchair next to the fireplace, this room gets the afternoon sun as well so is lovely and cosy!

But if I could pick my favourite place to read – its on the beach! Watching the kids play in the sand and surf while I read my latest Home Beautiful Mag or novel is the best, fresh air, sun and the smells of summer all around, perfect!

What to read – I love a good book – usually a mystery of some desciption or a thriller. The occasional romance is OK too, my all time favourite book is My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult – and no I haven’t seen the movie, it would no doubt ruin the book for me.

Love all of the great entries, seems like we all have a special place to find a few minutes to escape into a book or magazine!

  833. Am now a Google Friend/Follower! How cool is that thingy!

  834. I would love to download every Jane Austen Novel ! I would also download cookbooks namely the barefoot contessas. It would be great to be able have your recipes right there where you’re cooking!. Reading on the couch curled up with a great book is heaven! lol I also like to read in bed, helps me to wind down from the day.

  835. Kathy says:

  838. Morgan says:

I would read ( if I got to keep it from my wife) science fiction, and read it on the lounge by the bedroom.

  839. kathy says:

Reading is the one place i can truly relax, and i enjoy it most propped up on big pillows under an old soft quilt,or at the beach, or anyway where i have to wait,or in the kitchen waiting for the pot to boil,or well you get the idea! I enjoy reading gardening books, cook books, and a variety of authors esp. Jodi Picoult, elizabeth Berg, and Anne Lamont,to name a few…I am going to try to get through Awakenings by Oliver Sacks, i would love to try this via Kindle…Happy Spring

  840. Mechelle K. says:

I am in love with all things nautical; the beach is the most relaxing place to be! The fresh air, the smells of summer, tanning lotions, and the waves rushing in, just a wonderful place to read. The kindle would be wonderful for all my books. My fiancé is finishing his degree as an English major and this would be the perfect graduation gift for him.

We love books! I am looking into interior design and would love to purchase some books and having the kindle would allow me to have all of them without the bulk and weight of the books. The next books will be “American Fashion Designers at Home” & “Living Architecture.”

Thanks for the opportunity, Bless you.
    Mechelle

  854. Jackie says:

That’s the beauty of an e-reader — you can take your entire collection with you and access it whenever you are bored or waiting or have time to kill. I love historical novels and then looking up and reading about the historical period. I love reading historical novels that teach you history but give you a story line so that the whole period interests you and you just have to know all of the factors involved and the details, etc. It is the only way I ever became interested in history and now am a history fanatic. I also love reading cookbooks. I don’t just read them either. I refer to them and try many of the recipes (if not too complicated). I am such an avid reader that I must schedule reading and limit my read times often, otherwise I would get nothing done.

  855. Michelle says:

I joined your Google Friend thingy too. Forgot to mention my favourite place to read is snuggled up in bed on a cold night (most nights here in the South Island of NZ) with a glass of wine and a square or six of Whittaker’s Almond Gold chocolate – utter heaven.

  856. robert waites says:

I would read self help and marketing books.I like to read in my bedroom where it is quiet and comfortable.

  857. Carli says:

Anything inspirational. Cookbooks, decorating, fiction, philosophy. At the moment, I am obsessed with Japanese fashion designers. I’d download a book on that topic and read it out the back on my deck, in the afternoon, when there is a warm breeze and I have a nice glass of semillon sauvignon blanc in my other hand.

  858. Auriette says:

My first download would be the complete works of William Shakespeare. I love to read anywhere, but I guess I most often read in bed.

  859. Tamara says:

Wow! I love to read anything that is a mystery related. I love to read Diane Mott-Davis. She is a wonderful caterer that solves mysteries and the best part is when she adds her recipes included in the book. I love to read in the bathtub or in the car on the way to visit my grandgirls. You can never have to many books, but they take up space and a Kindle would solve that problem. Happy Reading America!!!!!

I read anywhere and anytime I have a free moment. I’m a science fiction fan. Yes, a female sci fi fan and I’d go back to read early Isaac Asimov.

  869. Danielle says:

I would kick back on my verandah overlooking our rural property in Central West NSW, taking in the views whilst boning up on Stephanie Alexander, Maggie Beer, vintage crochet books (come on…it’s a dying art, someone’s gotta keep it going) and just about anyone’s autobiography – not fussy – everyone’s lives are interesting enough to write about, but only the brave have the chutzpah to write it down, good and bad. Just found your blog, Sarah – love it!

  870. The Distressed Mother says:

I read anything and everything of a night when I go to bed. I also have a large collection of cook books which I have never used for their recipes. I like to just look at the pictures.

There are daily ones, plus Shakespeare, Poe, tons of classics, and many short stories by popular authors. I love historical fiction. I have been cooking a lot lately, so cookbooks would be great as well!
I have a very comfortable rocking chair that I would read in.

  872. Deb says:

I am a readaholic and read pretty much anything. Chick lit is a fav as are decor books and baking (as opposed to cooking). I think it would be very handy to take to endless footy training where I can sneak in a little reading time between quarters.

  873. Jennifer gersch says:

I would love to read anything spiritual

  874. April says:

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs, ALL the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett

  875. Marc says:

I’d download: Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History.
My best place to read is my bedroom.

  876. Pati says:

IS THERE ANYTHING BETTER THAN A GOOD BOOK? ANY BOOK THAT YOU CAN SINK INTO AND ESCAPE TO THAT QUIET PLACE IN YOUR HEAD WHERE YOUR OWN CREATIVITY SEES THE CHARACTERS AND SETTINGS, I THINK NOT! I ENJOY ALL STYLES OF WRITING -FROM THE CLASSICS TO THE NEWEST AUTHORS, I KEEP UP WITH OPRAH’S FAVORITES, AND ENJOYED THEM ALL!! AFTER A BAD TRAUMA AND THE LOSS OF USE IN MY RIGHT ARM, I FIND HOLDING BOOKS HAS BECOME MORE DIFFICULT, I WOULD TRULY ENJOY AND APPRECIATE A KINDLE…THIS IS A WONDERFUL GIVE AWAY, .GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND HAPPY DECORATING, THE NEXT BEST THING TO READING!!!

I have a book reader and they’re the best things ever. If I won this, I’d give it to my mum as she would love one of these as she loves to read. The first book I’d put on it for her would be Annie’s Song by Catherine Anderson, just one of the most romantic books I’ve ever read. She’d read on it in bed!

  879. dddiva says:

Nora Roberts, Abraham Hicks, Stephen King, Any cookbook especially ones that read like a novel- and fave place to read is wherever I happen to be but I have to say- lounging poolside at a luxury hotel or on the beach tops my list because it means I am on vacation.

Sheer genius. I am thinking reality tv series, your own beach house/prairie magazine, line of clothing….

I would download all of the classics that I read as a child just to relive the magic all over again. :) I love to read on our porch swing in good weather.

Oh how I love to read….right now I am reading The Help and it is fantastic. What I would download on to a kindle would be beach reads for summer. Love reading on the dock or at the beach at the lake and my beach bag would be much lighter :)
    Lovely day to all.

I would really love to read the Bible in its entirety. I think having it downloaded on a Kindle would make this so much easier! I love to read anywhere…I read every moment that I get a chance to whether it is at home, on break at work, or anyplace in between! If I had to choose my favorite spot though, it would definitely be in the shade of my favorite tree in our yard.

I would love to download and read anything by Dave Barry! My favorite spot to read is curled up on our sofa. :)

Thanks for this great giveaway! I would love to read more historical novels in my big comfy chair by the window.
