when life gives you lemons…

the other night I went out to a sporting event as a volunteer, I left my home at Arsenic Hour in the cottage…bath-time going on, teenagers having dinner, music lessons, husbands coming in from work drenched from the rain, girls to pick up from sport…I left all that and went out to volunteer at a sports event in lashing down rain on one of the wettest nights the beaches has seen for a long time…

..to cut a long story short after all this effort and leaving my family, I along with the other girl volunteering her time to join me in this sport were just not treated the way I would have treated someone who had done the same…

I drove home along the coast, all the windows in car open, getting long lovely lung-fulls of fresh air off of the sea feeling rather sorry for myself.

At home I chewed Mr BC’s ear about my efforts for free & respect blah blah blah

And then, after dinner, I switched on the tv and the story of Dede The Tree Man came on.

And someone somewhere was sending me a message.

And I thought how stupid I was to whine on about my ‘time’

And on my run this morning, sun shining, sky beautiful, a coastal breeze, listening to my ipod I thought about The Tree Man and what he’s been through and I felt very lucky here on this gorgeous Sydney morning – I felt ever so grateful for this new life of mine…for my eyes to see the beauty with, feet to walk around with  and hands to take photos with…

So that’s it from my Good Life Wednesday…I am sitting back and smelling the lemons…hit me with what you’ve got…(if you need more information about how to join in go here) and you must link back to abeachcottage.com…thanks!

Life has a funny way of teaching us things. I wish it would choose to teach before I have my childish meltdown whinge session, and save me the embarrasment and my poor family’s ears.

Hi Sarah, My father had a great saying “When life serves you lemons – turn them into Lemonade!”
I love your photos with the lemons!

Hi, can I say something to you? I am a company’s sales woman. Because of the pressure of the hard work, my hair became less and less. I was so upset and do not know how to do that. And I will visit many customers every day, but my hairs are too ugly to visit people, and often be laughed by colleagues. Then I try to have some medicines, but unrewarding. And most serious the medicines are harm to me. So I try to buy some wigs. I visit many wig’s shops, most of them are so ugly and expensive. My life nose-dived. One day when I search the internet, I found an online shop ThisWigs. I found it so cheap, and the picture looks so beautiful. But I still doubt about that. And I cannot help but temptation. When I get wigs from the online shop, I found it beautiful, and when I touch the hair, and I can feel the material was good. When I wear it to the company, my colleague cannot distinguish the fake hair and the real hair. And my boss said I became beautiful recently. Now I am so confident when I visit customers. And sales company products easily than before. My incomes improved now. Thank you for the online-shop ThisWigs.

  12. Deb says:

I had a similar day yesterday then heard a guy speaking on the radio who was born without arms or legs. He wasn’t complaining. Kind of gave me and instant attitude adjustment.

  13. if you are never one to throw lemons you just see the world in a better way!!

i totally understand how you feel….why, when it takes more effort to not care, do people just not show their good side??

hope that cool sea coastal air washed some of the negativity away…

i’ve not seen this *tree man* but i can imagine from what you have said that you re-assessed it all and counted your blessings…ahhh a good life wednesday!

Lovely! I need a smacking reminder at least once per day! Thank you ever so much.
Lovely lemons – looking forward to those bursting forth from the trees here in FL by the sea in the coming months!
I’ll bet I see them and remember this very post – and then I ‘ll be reminded all over again!

  20. Oh, the story of Dede just breaks my heart every time – quite possibly more than any other story about any ill or disabled person. The second I think of him I remember all I have to be thankful for.

  29. Love your message today, Sarah. It’s good to remember that it’s not about how we’re treated, but how we treat others. Oohh, that’s so hard! Your lemons are a good reminder as well as very lovely. Yellow is my favorite color so I’m a big lemon fan. Thanks for hosting this fun party. I really enjoy linking up.
