Gosh ALmighty Sarah…I am busy enough looking after dad than trying to work this out!! just joking love…!!~~

I just KNOW you must be sitting back in the “beach cottage” with a tad smirk on your face making us mortals guess what the heck is going on..

I think you may have a little “sinister” streak in you!!!
    YOU LOVE TORMENTING!!!~~~~

    OKAY…last guess…I am DONE…like an auction…” LAST CHANCE…..BID NOW…WONT BE ON OFFER AGAIN!!”…ETC..

SOOOO….MMMM!!! DRILL IN place…HOOKs…so must be hanging something…needing BIG hooks…
    so probably quite heavy…

hanging mirrors & other mixed media…on hooks…mixed with a shelf with goodies on it..
goods on the shelf range from some books/shells…pearlised buttons in glass jar…(now that is getting specific!!)…

OKAY I give up…off to watch Masterchef and shall check back on what has happened..

    I give iN!!

    xx andrea

  2. Tammi says:

You are getting great enjoyment dragging this out aren’t you :D….I just knew it had something to do with hooks.

Think I’ll try and wait patiently (or not) for the big reveal….I just know you’ll have me drooling!!!

  3. Sharon Forward says:

Hi Sarah, Not going to hang an old big ! bit of driftwood up found on one of your jaunts down the beach??? with your eye for things it could be anything that could get the Sarah touch and end up looking fantastic bet your enjoying this lol have a great week.

  4. alison says:

Guess I am staying logged on tonight until you get the finished pictures up…the suspence is killing me Sarah!

  5. Sue says:

ahhhhhhh..maybe he was taking DOWN the pipes..and putting up some coat hooks on a vintage-y find???

I really really want a shell sphere…can you tell?

By the way..did I tell you Aussie customs pulled me aside last trip cause I had a bath bomb in my bag??? No..they didn’t think it was a bomb…they thought it was an apple LOL…God forbid i bring an apple into Aus!!!

  6. Mel B says:

Okay, I think it has something to do with an oar painted white and hooks? Is it a hat or coat rack? Whatever it is I’m sure we will all love it.
Can’t wait to see what it is…. xx

  7. Deborah May says:

an oar inspiring coat rack? x

  8. Mel B says:

Oh, and when are you announcing the winner and letting us know the answer… If it’s tonight, I’ll go and make a cuppa and wait up to see the answer… :)

  9. carla says:

YOU ARE SUCH A TEASE!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to see what it is, I don’t even care what it is…..I just wanna see it!!!! xx

  10. Andrea Saunders says:

    Hi Sarah
I think you must be one lucky lady to have a hubby doing stuff for you in the middle of the night, I should know because I am married to a man who would do the same. Lucky me. I think he is hanging some old oars or paddles??
Good luck everyone else out there.

  11. Elizabeth says:

I thought I saw a hook shadow in the first picture! Now what could it be? The suspense is killing me (but I am enjoying it!!) It could be anything knowing you Sarah, but it’s going to be great!

  12. Amanda says:

Whatever it ends up being we ALL know it will be OARSOME! You need to put us out of our misery Sarah…can’t wait to see how many of us go “Oh I was going to guess that next”……;)

  13. Michelle says:

Ok …just letting you know I’m missing Masterchef for this , but I’m thinking he is screwing those two hooks in and then instead of holding coats or hats they will be holding the boat oar …kinda like a big curtain rod. Please Sarah put us out of our misery!

  14. Tiff says:

I can’t decide whether he’s hanging hooks ‘oar’ an oar ; ) ‘Oar’ both!
Either way, I bet we’re having more fun guessing than he did doing it!

  15. Anne-Marie says:

Those hooks are going to hold up the oar…yes?

  16. Amanda says:

I have to share with you all that MY HUSBAND is now involved in this guessing game…hahahah

  17. Anne-Marie says:

I also see a mirror, is the mirror to be suspended from the oar which is held up by the hooks?

I need a cuppa and a chocky biscuit from this brain strain x

  18. deb says:

I reckon he is putting up hooks for the oars. Am I right, am I??

  19. Amanda says:

I think my husband is more interested in the beer…he says he knows exactly whats going on but it’s ‘Secret Men’s Business’….
So it’s back to guessing for me.
I agree with Anne-Marie above, hooks holding up oar and mirror hanging off oar. There thats it I’m done…What’s going on????????

  20. donna says:

Jeez girls, just waking up here in good ole USA! Man the coffee’s not working fast enouh to keep up with all of you! OK I see the knobs!!!!! Yes, so a knob a drill….. The hooks are on the oar and the oar is suspended from the metal pole? That’s it, that’s my guess. I def need more coffee now!!! <3

  21. cheryl says:

i think he’s hanging an oar & drilling holes to attach hooks to make a coat/hat rack.
i have a ready made oar shaped one in my entry. so handy and welcoming.. full of baskets, scarves and hats.
can’t wait to see what you do with yours!

  22. donna says:

I just saw the bench, love it and I had to come back because I spelled enough wrong in my last post. Sorry I hate when I do that. Wait is this another chance to win? AHHHH well worth it then.<3 donna

  23. cheryl says:

does this count as another entry??
i have a few spare old oars found on the side of the road :). you’ve given me an idea to make another one for my kids rooms. might get a bit of the stuff off the floor!

  24. Kirsty says:

Beadboard and vintage hooks in beadboard! Yaya

  25. Sharon Smart says:

Hmmm he’s drilling holes and putting up hooks? I know what he’s doing….he’s gonna be heading up to Qld to my place to hang some stuff here too…I have beer….

  26. Annette from Lake Macquarie another beautiful spot says:

I think your Mr BC is hanging the oars that you had been looking for the right spot for – he is hanging hooks to display them horizontally.

I know they will look great – Good luck Sarah

  27. Michelle Haviland says:

I’m wondering if you’re going to hang a lovely bunch of vintage mirrors/paintings? over your lovely “beadboard” walls? Something’s going to be hanging, that’s for (pretty) sure!

Or maybe it’s just me – left hanging, that is…

What fun! Can’t wait to see!

    Blessings,

    Michelle

  28. Karli says:

YAY! A coat rack with your oars!

And gorgeous beady curtains perhaps ;)

  29. Lori says:

Sarah, I was off the computer last night and obviously am late to the guessing game. Are you going to be hanging art, is it a display pole? Please enter me in the giveaway….could use some Beach Cottage goodies in my life!

  30. flick says:

Right. I have been thinking about this. I reckon he has been using the pipe to get a level line, screw in those large hooks….. to display your old oars???? Thats my best guess mate! If thats not it, well I reckon it would look great so maybe Mr. BC will have something extra on his ‘to-do’ list? (Beer included of course)
    :) Flick

  31. karen davis says:

Well, I think maybe there was piping there, that was now removed, and now there will be hooks going up that are going to display some of your amazing goodies!

  32. Sharon Smart says:

Hey Flick…are you an EBer by chance??

  33. Jo says:

    Umm hanging something?

  34. Jacqui says:

    Hi Sarah,
I have no clue…but my brain’s lateral thinking ability is not working too well tonight! I just replaced my horrible blue bedroom curtains with some white cheapie ikea ones, and the difference is amazing (and the fact that I hung them higher and wider than the actual window dimensions – can’t believe people would cover up a small window with curtains!) Anyway, the point is, I’d love some white accessories to finish the look :)
As always, love your blog and your photos.
    Jacqui

  35. Joely says:

the mystery task looks a little bit ‘oarsome’! Have you perhaps got Mr BC ‘hooked’ on working late into the night? your makeover is looking rather beachy!

  36. Bev says:

Ok…. this is so fun Sarah !! The oar is the main thing and the pipe.. maybe to hang a curtain. But what ever he deserves another beer !!!!

  37. Stacy says:

I am stumped! Can’t wait for the big reveal!

  38. Kerry says:

I’m really pleased to see that Mr BC is consistent with his beer drinking habits…all things in moderation hey!

  39. Mel says:

    Hi Mrs BC
I’m guessing that Mr BC is holding up a pipe while drinking beer and complaining that he could be doing something else considerably more exciting like watching a bikini model on tv. Well that’s what my better half would be doing. I’m really guessing your hanging a new coat rack and removing some sort of water pipe maybe?????
I desperately need to know now.

  40. cassie says:

everything i was thinking has been guessed….. hanging the oars, or possibly creating a nook to hang towels in the hall? i have no idea, but can’t wait to see!!

  41. Amanda says:

Can’t wait any longer I have to go to bed and as I have to work tomorrow I guess I won’t find out what is going on until tomorrow night :) Hanging gorgeous mirror off an awesome rustic oar…thats my guess and if I’m not right I know it will be fantastic whatever it is. Cheers xx

  42. Nina says:

I am commenting again! I am really curious as to what your hubby is up to you! Looking forward to the reveal!

  43. Mel says:

Proper guess this time, The oars are the coat rack. How cool!!!!! :-) More Beer, more beer, more beer, more beer. (sorry was singing)

  44. Beth says:

You are going to use your sweet old oar w/hooks to hang up cute beach cottage things on your freshly painted beadboard wall!!

  45. Kerri says:

Right – I reckon the oar is going to be a curtain rod. Am I close? And does the correct guess get to win, or is it random? You are an evil tormentor young lady! K xx

  46. sarah says:

Oar right then….Its a door curtain drapey coat rack thingy, think that covers all posibilities!! Will no doubt be stunning, love the new wallcovering.

  47. Jen says:

I can’t wait to see the result….. but I really want the giveaway – I love your treasures!

  48. Catherine Lehman says:

Looking forward to seeing the end result. I love surprises!

  49. Christine says:

I believe you are using those lovely hooks to hang the oar on. This will be a lovely curtain rod

  50. This is almost slightly torturous! I was thinking coat rack but that might be too obvious…. maybe you are holding the oar with the hooks?? Dear answer..please hurry up!

  51. Mel says:

I completely agree, it’s time to go to bed.
    How much longer………..

  52. My guess is…a coat rack, perhaps along those oars? I don’t know…but I’m loving following along with your big DIY project!

  53. Kathleen H in Indiana says:

    Gotta be the oars. Right????????

  54. I’m guessing he is hanging your beautiful vintage oar(s) on those hooks? Your giveaway sounds superb…I’d love to win one of those shell spheres!

  55. Anita says:

I think he’s turning that oar into a coat rack. Yes?

  56. amy thayer says:

hhhmmm….a mud room perhaps? btw, I love love love the beadboard wall paper. i A
M going to find a project to use that in.

  57. Christine Franks says:

Hanging vintage oars? Your BC family totally rocks!!

  58. Stacey says:

Hi Sarah, I also say oar coat rack. And I super love that your husband works with a beer in back pocket…tooo fun! ~Stacey

  59. Karen says:

A coat rack with a shelf above for beer? A rod (oar) to hang beer bottle lanterns from? I keep thinking the beer has to be part of the project somehow, lol!

  60. Tampa Screen Enclosure says:

Just read your post and this is absolutely a Thrill!

  61. Jennifer G says:

hmmmm-could it be some sort of coat rack fashioned from a fabulous old oar?????

  62. Cindy S says:

An oar with hooks on it for all of your lovely white treasures?

  63. Alisa says:

I didn’t guess before I read the reveal post, or the partial reveal. I just wanted to say what a good guy Mr BC is! Love your blog!

  64. Morning T says:

Too funny…whatever it is, I want it!! :)

  65. I live in Bangkok where a lot of buildings around.. I like the feeling of living in a cottage by the sea and so my girl friend..

    Have a good day!
